Chicago Guy in Sixty Seconds

Rate: 36 Flag

Happy Birthday Chicago Guy ~

To celebrate your special day, I offer you this ...

your Greatest Hits ... of sorts ~

CHICAGO GUY IN SIXTY SECONDS

In the Night, When No One Else is Listening, I think about My Carbon Footprint in the Sand and Why Baseball Matters.  I think about That Glassy Eyed Girl that Tried to Kill Me Off.  I think her name was Mavis.  I met her at Hot Doug’s:  So Much More than a Hot Dog Place and believe me, she could make the Chicago Cardinal Scream.  She used to sing me Buddy Holly’s Last Song and once we snuck out late at night and Nailed Doubt to the Church House Door, if you know what I mean.  She had Real Power over me and I used to think that maybe she was Patti Blago’s Normal Sister.

Once we were on a road trip to Racine to see Mom At 80 and I heard that girl shouting, “You’re Not Gonna Die on Me Are You?”  But, Chicago Legend John Calloway Dies anyway.  He was my favorite journalist and was doing a piece on Management Consultants Investigating Nuns.  I met him once and he asked me, “Ever Met a Holy Person?”  I know that I probably won’t because I can’t stop asking myself, “Did I Vandalize My Church?”  Everytime I leave there all they say is, “Who Was That Guy?” anyway.  It will take A Radical Turn of the Cheek, not to mention A Radical Welcome before I ask, “When Did My Sins Get so Boring” at their alter call again.  I wonder, Would Giving Away Books Make News? there?

Could be worse I suppose.  At least I didn’t suffer Death By Olympics and I’m not The Anorexic Girl in the Window or People I See in Starbucks on Monday Morning.  I’m  busy Bringing The Federal Writer’s Project to Life because, seriously, Does Anybody Really Teach A Genius to Make Art?   I’ve got Dreams for Good Times Coming and I ain’t just Whistling Misty.

Happy Birthday Friend :)

I hope this trip around the sun brings more joy and happiness than any other.

xoxo,

Ann

Happy Birthday and everyday, dear Roger!

Good on you, too, 1_IM!!!
HA! That was great, Ann!

HBD, Roger. You da man, and I sincerely hope you have a marvelous day.
Ann/Im---I am overwhelmed and humbled. Thank you. I've never gotten a gift like this. Am reminded of the great ball player Ron Santo. A hero then and now. Year after year he gets knocked down for membership in the Hall of Fame. . .but then, on this blue sky summer day a few years back; we all roared as he walked out on the field (no small trick for a man with two prosthetic legs) and said as a flag with his Number 10 was raised into the breeze swirling above the ballpark; never to be worn by anyone again "This is my Hall of Fame."

You and all the kind folks who left notes---you just gave me my hall of fame. And I could not be more grateful. Thank you! Roger
Inspired and ingenous! And a wonderful subject!
Whoopee! Happy Birthday, Roger! Unique way of saying it, Mother!
VERY innovative way to write a tribute post. Awesome Masterpiece. Besides it is good.

Happy birthday, Roger!

Monte
This is brilliant, or at least very inventive, the way you've woven all this together. Looks pretty time consuming. Very cool!

Well Happy Birthday and what a cool tribute Mother did here. I'm going to click on some of them now.
I wish I could rate twice -- once for Chicago Guy's birthday and once for Mother's impressively unique and creative post.
OK, 1IM, I have to know: HOW LONG did this take?? When I was helping Lorraine with posting the Father's Day Writing Contest entries, it seemed to take FOREVER just to do a few links! I'm so impressed I can hardly type! You are incredible!

Oh--and Happy B'Day, Roger! Many, many more!! D
What I could tell you about trips around the sun! People shouldn't worry too much - it's going to be putting out the heat for a while yet.

Chicago, it's my kinda town.
Happy b'day Roger.
Very clever, Ann! Happy birthday to Roger. Hope it's a good one.
Hey Everybody :) Thanks for coming to Roger's party! I think it was a pretty darn good time! Sorry that Lulu and Phoebe & I ate all the cake before you got here ... there's always next year.

And Roger ~ That is the best and kindest Birthday Party Acceptance Speech ever! ;)
What a fantastic friend you are! Happy birthday Roger. Huge blessings to you, friend, and may this be the year that top awards that were unjustly denied flow your way! (You know what I'm talking about.)
Happy Birthday CG!! Sorry I missed it by weeks :(
