Bio
I'm some things to a few people. Mostly a nuisance but sometimes a zine writer, internet radio host, blogger, musician, and project organizer. I run a small website where you can read mine and other fabulous contributor's words: www.diatribemedia.com and also contribute to the Chicagoist (www.chicagoist.com). When not shouting about the falling sky over the internet, reading about government conspiracies or watching b-rate sci-fi, you can find me singing for the band Burning Luck. Direction is only relative to your position in the grand scheme of things. Some day, I'll sort this all out.

Is This What Democracy Looks Like?

In 2002, I attended a rally to protest the Trans Atlantic Business Dialogue meeting in Chicago in front of Boeing headquarters. This was a smaller action - but it was the first time I had seen major press coverage ahead of time about a "globalization" related action in/… Read full post »

Deer In Headlights and Your Gut Feeling

I'll be the first person to question on the spot demands from people to articulate just why they like a candidate so much, but this video does a pretty good job of showing just how uninformed people can be.

This crosses party lines, I'm sure. I can probably… Read full post »

Time For A Vacation

Maybe I just need a break from making my eyeballs bleed from staring at a computer screen so long. Maybe I need to check out for a little vacation from the behemoth that the American news media is. Either way, there's a handful of subjects I could already do with a… Read full post »

Why I Didn't Need To Watch The RNC

I actually watched less of the RNC when it was actually happening than the length of this video, but I'm pretty sure this video caught all the highlights. The best part is, if we changed the characters and some of the words to things like "hope," "change," "progress," and "Bush" -… Read full post »

Smoke If You Got 'Em

On Wednesday, everyone on our tiny little planet will bear witness to an amazing event. An amazing coalition of scientists in Switzerland will fire up the Large Hadron Collider, the world's largest and highest energy particle accelerator. Eggheads across the globe are hopeful that the LHC will be ab… Read full post »

When Having Anything Becomes Illegal

St. Paul police got a jump on demonstrators over the Labor Day weekend, raiding a space set up by protest organizers on the grounds that they were a "criminal enterprise." Police entered, guns drawn, presumably because this heavily equipped (re: cell phones, maps, digital cameras, protest literature.… Read full post »

God really loves Republicans.

Well, maybe not. God sometimes really loves Democrats.

Actually, now that I think about it, God really loves Muslim extremists.

Not exactly though, when you really start thinking about it. God also loves  neo-nazi's, raw food vegetarians, any number of… Read full post »

Apparently, the economy isn't just giving the middle and lower classes a reason to close their wallets.  It seems that even the wealthy are feeling the economic pinch. Well, depending on who you ask.

In a rather funny article I found in toda… Read full post »

I've spent many years drifting in and out of the music "business." In high school and college I played in several bands - mostly shows in basements and garages - but I ended up playing a fair amount of small clubs in the Chicagoland area as well as some surrounding… Read full post »

Residents of a small Arkansas town already live with a host of problems, with an out of control crime rate topping the list. Now the citizens of Helena-West Helena can add one more reason to be afraid - martial law. Police in Helena-West Helena patrol the streets with M-16's and… Read full post »
