Inspired by Monte Canfield I thought, why not make this a musical Sunday? In case you didn't know Monte posted on his blog what might be the single most beautiful piece of music, ever. Check it out.
The two pieces I offer for your listening pleasure are both sung by Maria Callas. The first is a piece called LaWally. Some of you might be familiar with it from the Godard movie Diva, sung by Wilhelmina Wiggins Fernandez. Her rendition is breathtaking, but I still prefer Callas'.
The second piece is from Carmen. It will get you moving on a Sunday and make you laugh. Here the theatrical gifts of Callas are plainly evident. This was recorded in 1962 and watching her I can understand why Aristotle Onassis was so in love with her. A pity for her that in a few short years she would become the tragic figure in her own love story in that impending triangle. Life imitates art imitates life.

I first heard Maria Callas on the 'Philadelphia' movie soundtrack, singing La Mamma Morta. Loved loved loved it.
So, if I were to purchase a Maria Callas cd today, what would you recommend?
did it's thing.
Did you ever see Carmen Jones?
The lyrics to the song M.C. was singing (sung by Dorothy Dandridge)
were:
If you want me
Then I'm taboo
But if you don't
Then I want you
If I want you
I will get you
And when I do
That's the end
of You!
(Alas, that sums up my relationships with women!)

Thanks for this. I wasn't at all familiar with "La Wally". It's gorgeous.
