Two More Christmas (off the beaten) Tracks

Rate: 5 Flag

I had the good luck to happen upon both of the following songs in a modern Christmas compilation while in the UK in the late 80s.  The first is by the boy soprano Aled Jones.  In researching this I discovered a minor controversy.  The animated clip in the video is from a Christmas show called The Snowman which used Walking In The Air as their theme music.  Except the version used in the show was by another boy soprano named Peter Auty.  Aled’s version sold very well and I gather that some folks thought it unjust that Peter’s earlier version didn’t.  Oh well.

The clip features Aled as a young man accompanying himself as a child.  Have a look at their facial expressions and imagine how weird it must feel, especially with Aled perhaps suspecting that he may have achieved his greatest fame as a kid.

Stop the Cavalry might resonate with those who favor a Stop the War theme in their Christmas mix.

That CD also included Xmas songs by Lennon, McCartney, Slade (!), Chris de Burgh, and an old favorite - The Little Saint Nick.
The Snowman was by Raymond Briggs n'est ce pas?
Lovely music and rated with hugs
I had to google it Linda but you're correct. Briggs wrote and co-narrated (along with David Bowie) it. Glad you enjoyed the music.
When you achieve great fame in your youth you are starved for it the rest of your life I suspect. Nice POV and vids.
Hi Algis. It must be a tough adjustment. You have a spell where everyone's telling you how great you are and treating you like royalty. Then the bloom fades, tastes change, or your voice does. You no longer have gaggles fawning over you and you have to get on like a more ordinary person. Whew! Now I'm glad I achieved nothing in my youth. Glad you enjoyed the vids.
Abrawang, That first number sounds like he IS Walking On Air. And the second, maybe it was the accent but I couldn't help but think ...Ian Dury. :)
Spot on on both observations Scarlett. Lewie has another one called Always in The Kitchen at Parties that's also very good and very Drury-ish.
Hi Veronica. Any version you'd recommend?
I don't think I've ever heard either of these tunes; but they'll certainly be added to this year's holiday mix tape!
M. Chariot, I'm glad you approve. In their different ways both are delightful.
Those were enjoyable clips, Abrawang; thank you. I especially liked "Walking in the air" very much. ~r
Very glad you enjoyed them Fusun. Both were previously unknown pleasant surprises when I got the CD.
I liked the Aled Jones, "Walking in the Air" piece. The other was not so much to my taste. Thanks for sending the link.
