Found Things (it's wonderful and hilarious)

Rate: 21 Flag

I found this recently in my mother's papers. (Yes, I am STILL going through her stuff, almost a year later!) Mac (k) was our extra large black cat, known for his shenanigans on the campus at MacDuffie, the boarding school where my Mom worked and where I was a student. This was likely written by one of the security guards; they have a little office at the campus gates and would have seen the drama occur.

I couln't get the text to read more clearly:

Mack

"YOUR CAT MACK CAUGHT A BABY BLUE JAY (ONE OF TWO THAT FELL OUT OF THE TREE IN THE TRAFFIC CIRCLE IN FRONT OF RUTENBER HALL), MUCH TO THE CHAGRIN OF THE PARENT BIRD, WHO PURSUED IN A LOW-ALTITUDE ATTACK DURING MACK'S HASTY RETREAT, QUARRY CLUTCHED IN HIS JAWS. THE PARENT BIRD CONTINUED TO HARASS AND VERBALLY CHASTISE MACK AS HE PLAYED WITH HIS CATCH IN THE DRIVEWAY NEAR YOUR CAR. NO DOUBT YOU WERE WAKEN BY THIS VOCAL ASSAULT. PARENT BLUEJAY ASSEMBLED OTHERS INTO A CHORUS OF ORAL ABUSE, TO NO AVAIL."

This brings me such laughter and joy - the whole scenario, and the fact that my mother kept the note for, um, 20 odd years?

I hope this makes you smile.

The color commentary is priceless! Poor little blue jay, but that's what cats do for fun...
That note would have been worth keeping just for the extraordinary language in it: "chagrin," "verbally harass," "chorus of oral abuse," all for a cat and a bird. That was terrific.
Love it. "PARENT BLUEJAY ASSEMBLED OTHERS INTO A CHORUS OF ORAL ABUSE, TO NO AVAIL."
Priceless.
I can see why she saved it. Wonderful!~r
I am so glad your mom kept the note so we could all enjoy it. I am surprised you never saw it before.
Wonderful. I think Mack must have had a fan club-- Not consisting of blue jay mothers.
It did make me smile. Both the fact that someone would take the time to document the action, and that your mom would save it for so many years.
This is great! And I love that you point out that your mother kept this strange note for so long - that does indeed make it even funnier. Chuckling out loud, though sad for the baby blue jay all the same. R.
Go post haste and frame that note Aim. It is a classic and something to keep. The fact that she kept it means so much.
This is great. I got a laugh out of it as my kitten was biting my toes during the read here.
Looking at it again, I think that security guard would've made a great blogger!
That security guard was obviously exercising his creative blogging chops before blogging even existed! I wonder if he realizes he is finally being read and rated as he well deserves. This is a riot!
dumb animals, gotta love em!

Buffy
When I lived in my old home after the fire they took the walls apart and out came this note from a little boy in 1919 saying he was sorry he had drank his mothers tea..
This is so cute.
rated with hugs
I see why she saved it! That was one talented security guard. When I first went to college in the late 70s, I was a security guard and an English Major -- perhaps.
Oh that is too funny and I love that your mom treasured it all these years!
It must have been such a treat to read such a colorful report on the cat, specially after a full work day. Would not fit in the modern tweet!
What a remembrance. Both funny and poignant in many ways.
I'm sort of impressed with that security guard's sense of drama. He makes a good story teller! Thanks for the smile, aim :)
Brilliant! And come on . . . how do you throw away a piece like that? I would have kept it too . . .
Love this - you should send this to Found Magazine - http://www.foundmagazine.com/
it's sorta like a melodrama. i can almost hear the plinkety-plunk of the piano, and a flashboard screen with these words, followed by a cat with mouth full of feathers.
It does make me smile, as does catching up with your wonderful writing. Won't comment on your latest as you have closed that, but would rate more than once if I could. Many blessings to you and your family, Aim.
