At the right place..by Michael

Barbara stood on the platform waiting for the train to come. Underground and indoors, it was mid July and the sweltering heat made her dizzy. She couldn't wait until that air conditioned train arrived. Barbara passed out that early afternoon and rolled onto the tracks a few feet below. Other people screamed in horror who witnessed this, but Melvin Reacted right away instead as he jumped onto the tracks. He lifted the unconscious young lady and placed her back up on the platform. A shining light came out of the tunnel with the horn blaring and steel brakes screeching with sparks running under its wheels. Melvin climbed up onto the platform as the train came to a stop a few yards ahead of where he would have been hit and definitely would have died. Barbara awoke as the medics had arrived and drove her away in an ambulance to the nearby hospital. Melvin rode along with her. She awoke again after being treated for shock and dehydration. Melvin introduced himself as she sat up and put her arms him with the tightest hug you could imagine. Both cried tears of joy at a life that was saved. Neither got to the city that early Saturday afternoon to do their shopping, so they made plans to go together this time. They both stood far away from the platform next to the tracks this time and laughed out loud. One last stop was planned in the city by him. It was to her surprise that he walked her into a jewelry store. Barbara picked out the engagement ring and six months later they got married. "Former hero who saved girl from oncoming train marries her" was the headlines in the newspapers. Maybe strangers need to be at the right place, the wrong time. Case in point in a short love story about Barbara and Melvin....
