The Sprinkler..by Michael

Rate: 0 Flag
Reggie met his first true girlfriend when he was twenty three years old. Meg was twenty at the time. It was in April and after two months of dating he took her home to meet his parents. Something very serious for sure. They loved her from the beginning and thought they really were a good match for each other. Meg would visit him often at his house and during those summer months an item in the backyard garden would become very popular. It was the sprinkler. A radio would play and they would dance fast and slow in between the cool water that was meant for the garden. It became their favorite thing to do over the next five years during those hot summer months. They came one day to his parents house and she held out her hand which showed an engagement ring on that special finger. Mom and dad smiled and cried as they then hugged their future son's wife. The wedding was just beautiful and everybody there had a great time, especially the parents of both involved. His parents retired and moved to Florida as they left their son and his wife their old house. Each would visit the other twice a year as the family connection was kept alive. In the backyard a radio was now replaced by outdoor speakers connected to a stereo system just inside the back door. Fast and slow dances were performed during those hot summer months as old habits and memories continue on. The cool water soothed them both as the garden sprinkler did its job. Maybe an old favorite habit continues as the memory of what made them happy to begin with is now part of their summer routine. Case in point from a short love story about Reggie, Meg, and the sprinkler...
