23 americans would be criminals,

if they weren't government officers implementing 'rendition' policy. that makes kidnapping and torture o.k. except in italy-where they better not go back to.

people working for the government of the usa are utterly without shame. many are utterly immoral. quite a few are violent sociopaths.

i used to work for the government. i was young and john wayne assured me we were the good guys. various government activities* in south east asia slowly made me realize john wayne was lying, so i stopped doing it. i hope the rest of you will catch on eventually.

* phoenix program, free-fire zones, agent orange, tonkin incident, mylai, carpet-bombing of laos and cambodia...

not 23 americans, after all. news reports say some italian hench-things also convicted. 3 years each.

one of the cia ops made the news, saying "yes, we broke the law." and also "we should have had diplomatic immunity." absolutely without shame...

and she's feeling 'betrayed' by the government, which didn't protect her from prosecution. 've vere only carrying out orders,' in american sounds whinier than german, somehow.
John Wayne is part of the American myth. But a superficial one. The one we really pay allegiance to is "Might makes right." Since WWII we have been the common denominator in most major conflicts. "You can't handle the truth." Yes sir, that has been the case. Perhaps the beginning of change will be actually saying--and writing--the truth. We can only change what we acknowledge as real. Thank you for doing so.
