Rate: 4 Flag

The FDA has announced that it will hold an interactive webinar on the food inspection process in the U.S. It will be broadcast online and you can call in with questions.

It's expected to be about 30 minutes of presentation on who within the FDA actually carries out inspections, what the FDA is responsible for inspecting, how inspections are carried out, how problems are enforced, and the training involved for inspectors - with questions to follow - starting at 2 pm EST on March 25 (next Thursday).

Below is the specific information from the consumer update linked above:

"To join the webinar:
  1. Click https://collaboration.fda.gov/inspectionprocess/ (or cut and paste it into your Internet browser)
  2. Click "Enter as a Guest," fill in your name, then click "Enter Room"
  3. Dial 1-877-685-5350 and enter participant passcode: 969082

This webinar is the second in a series of monthly online sessions hosted by different FDA centers and offices. The webinar series is part of FDA Basics, a Web-based resource aimed at helping the public better understand what the agency does."

wow, fascinating. Is this FDA series unprecedented, perhaps part of the new era of transparency? Any other gov't agencies following suit?

Great to learn this news.
aliquot, I'll have to do some digging to see if it's completely new or just new to us, but the government's use of the internet has definitely expanded over the last year or so - and I was glad to see they're including interactive, and basically global, consumer programs.
Thank you Alicia for making me a favorite. I hope I can continue to deserve the honor.

Thank you for this information. also. I try to keep up with this kind of info; how our food is processed, inspected, etc. Learning about the way our food is processed has helped me lose ten pounds. :)
