Pseudoscience Reading List

Rate: 0 Flag

 What is Pseudoscience?

Pseudoscience is a catch-all term used to describe things which may be deemed scientific, but which are merely masquerading as science -pseudoscience is not real science because it does not follow one or more of the basic tenets of science.

Pseudoscience is all around us, and sometimes difficult to detect.  This is the first part of a series of blogs devoted to the exposure of pseudoscience.

Below is my suggested reading list if you have an interest in this topic:

The Skeptic Encyclopedia of Pseudoscience (2 volume set)

by Michael Shermer (Author)

- Why People Believe Weird Things: Pseudoscience, Superstition, and Other Confusions of Our Time

by Michael Shermer

(Author), Stephen Jay Gould (Foreword)

*** Michael Shermer the Founding Publisher of Skeptic magazine (www.skeptic.com - well worth a browse) and the Executive Director of the Skeptics Society.

- Voodoo Science: The Road from Foolishness to Fraud

by Robert L. Park (Author)

- Junk Science: How Politicians, Corporations, and Other Hucksters Betray Us

by Dan Agin Ph.D. (Author)

- The Demon-Haunted World: Science as a Candle in the Dark

by Carl Sagan (Author), Ann Druyan (Author)

- Science Under Siege: Defending Science, Exposing Pseudoscience

by Kendrick Frazier (Author, Editor)

Dr. Rory Coker, physicist at UTexas Austin also has a great reading list at his website devoted to distinguishing science from pseudoscience:

Prof. Steven Dutch of Univ. Wisconsin also has a great page devoted to science and pseudoscience:
