Spring in Sleepy Hollow Cemetery

Rate: 36 Flag

SleepyHollow

With so much death and so little to look forward to, our victories pale in comparison to the regenerative nature of Springtime. Here's looking to a future where the best memories are still written in stone, gracing the landscape; hope of  a distant heaven our only recourse.

Algis, these have given me breath. So wondrous, you really are a master at bringing things to life. Thank you.
Such beauty. Such much needed peace. Serenity.
Gorgeous - as usual! :-)
Algis, thank you for this excellent photo essay! I am figuring this is the Sleepy Hollow Cemetery in Tarrytown, NY. which is filled with so much history and so many beautiful headstones and monuments.
absolutely stunning...Ive always thought of old cemetaries as an outdoor sculpture garden..just lovely
Stunning, as usual. I lived 10 minutes from this cemetery for over 30 years, in Pocantico Hills NY. Did you know that the Van Tassels of Sleepy Hollow fame are buried there?
Great shots. (Great graves!) Where were these shot?
(oops - other people seem to know...)
l'Heure Bleue, Sharing that breath brings me renewed faith and more.THX

Linnnn, yes indeed and then some. THX

Myriad, Thanks Yes this is Terrytown at its finest moment.
I like the big foot photo. I would like to see you play with these photos like you do with some of your other series. There is lots of depth here. Thank you.
I love a good cemetery and this was quite beautiful. Always sad to see a "lamb" tombstone for a child.
Beautiful as always. Thank you so much.~r
One thing is we get our money's worth with you..:)
JUST AMAZING.
LOVE the new avatar and rated with hugs
We were there a couple of years ago! Creepiest cemetery ever. You can see how Washington Irving got his inspiration! I hope you got to see his fairy tale house!
These were so beautiful yet eerie at the same time. Beautiful pics!
I love cemeteries. This shows why.
zanelle, Yes now I wish I did more images like that too. Time was short.

From The Midwest, yes it is a good one with lots of hills as well.

Joan H., Thanks so much!

Linda Seccaspina, You too and then some. Esp your latest post.

Susie Lindau, Oh my I don't think so. Thanks next time.

scanner, Yeah that is one very interesting aspect of Cemeteries. I had a great time in the Charlotte Cemetery a few years back. I love the large trees there too.

Mimetalker, Yes indeed and thanks too!
Dogwoods and Angels, and Life and the Rejuvenating colors of spring, juxtaposed with the presence of death......Nice work once again, and congrats on EP!
Lovely photos, as always, the last one looks like you. Hope you are enjoying your spring, are you back Stateside?
Anne Cameron Cutri, Thanks so glad you saw this. Hope your MOMs fine these days too!

Oryoki Bowl, OMG your right but it also looks a little like you too! I think we are both embodied in this statue. How curious and wonderful. Yes I am now back but still have some nice stuff to post from the end of my journey. Stay tunes for "Life in the Olive Orchards of Akrata" or something like that.
So vivid! You are a master. Thank you for this. Your beautiful work always provides much needed escape.

The miserable rating button isn't working , but I'll be back.
In a place of angst and sorrow, springs the beauty of a new tomorrow. Your work is inspiring. Thanks for sharing this.
Lovely photos. Really like the photo of the statue with the foot in the foreground. R
You are truly a magnificent photographer, every time I arrive at this place I am graced with the magnificence you present. I feel that I have
been on a walk with angels and gods and goddesses and beautiful flowers gracing these amazing statuary.
rated with love
the green of spring is like no other. beautiful photographs and sentiment, algis. and i *love* cemeteries.
Wonderful photo essay. My distant (VERY distant) relative Washington Irving is there too of course. The connection partially accounts for my status as a writer wannabe.
Exquisite, as usual. The dogwood and lilacs are ephermeral and lively at once against the dead stone. Lovely.
Thanks travellin' man Algis. In these gray days your colour is appreciated. Gorgeous, as always.
Thanks for sharing your vision, Algis...I love the lamb. :)
Gray and pink, gray white and yellow, lovely. The sad expressions and the poses, the way that time has worn away some of the fine detailing only serves to inspire the feeling of loss. A peaceful beautiful place, is it macabre to enjoy cemeteries ? I do also.
Beautiful as usual. Wings of noble stone... I like the 2nd picture the best...listen...I agree, you are some sort of master...of something...
These sculptures capture the hopes and dreams of humanity. R
Just like the dinosaurs, our true meaning will only become relevant when we are all turned to stone, and through a different lense, another species given the task to decode and decipher us.
Beautiful composition, poetry almost. I especially liked number 12.

clay ball, Oh my I have another and maybe I will publish it here for you. OK I will.

rita shibr, You know like the Chinese the worship and rememberance of those who paved the road before us brings good fortune to all. hanks for the excellent comment too.

catch-22, Yes I am so glad I found that image and reposted it. Sometimes things hide from you at first and at a later time the speak volumes. Wonder how and why that happens?

Trudge164, Yes I think you have got it.Thanks again.

Inverted Interrobang, Wow good one there. I really would be curious to know how we are summed up. Last night in the film The Matrix they sum us up pretty accurately.

AnnaTBrowne, Oh that is just great it reminded me of Lincoln actually when I first spotted it.

Inverted Interrobang. OK and thanks!
What a beautiful, mystical place. I do love old cemeteries.
Gorgeous photos! I am speechless.
Beautiful pics, Algis. Particularly like the contrast between the statues and some of the brighter red and yellow flowers.
(Now, I know I commented before, and it's disappeared.... )
....well, as I was saying, I'm particularly intrigued by the close up of the foot...what a cool gift to be able to sculpt a foot like that...this is such a lovely cemetery.
Thanks for these, and welcome back to this side of the pond : )
Jeanette DeMain, Oh I am so glad you brought your appreciation and Love here to this then.

Erica K, Thats OK ,I was too durning the image making.

VariousArtists, Yes that is a wonder aspect of working there. Wish I got more.

Just Thinking...Oh thanks so much for the welcome home. I am so glad you saw these and more.
I also loved the pale dogwoods as contrast-- those flowers evoke spring and life bursting forth so well, yet they also echo of death somehow...just perfect against the sculptured stone...
Just thinking, Yes that is very nice to work with. Thanks for that.
What splendid statuary and photography! I have been meaning to "Favorite" you; thanks for reminding me by stopping by my post today. Cemeteries can be so beautiful and serene, oddly.

Lezlie
Wow!

Am late to this visual treat but better late than never - you show how death seamlessly turns into new life and this is just like poetry Algis. Loved it and am glad it made the Cover. Rated with love and admiration and a big hug for you.
Dear Lezlie, Yes they are everything you want them to be and then something extra. They are gardens where life meets death. Thanks!

Wow!

Rolling ,You captured my sentiment here oh so finely. Love to visit one with you one day. Thanks for the Hug too.
:) I would love that, thank you, Algis
