water and sky,

intense light, not a shadow in sight

not a care in the world

The purpose of life is to

have summer all the time...

but, this is Canada:

two good months is all we get.

The illusion is everything

(the delusion never far behind)

the solution is clear:

relish the moment with a daily ablution

It’s the flowers I love the best

and the ducks skimming the silken wavelets

and the children wading in wonder

and a golden sunset that is always in store.

opportunities I have missed:

it alarms me.

I shut them out. I’ll deal with it all in the Fall

You are a genius. I am totally in love with you and your work!! Thanks for the cooling images.
"I think back to the myriad

opportunities I have missed:

it alarms me."

Yes. Frightening truth. Lovely photos.
To infinite opportunities, and the season that brings them. To the ripple of the clear water.
How fun. And wonderful... first time I've seen this type of animation applied to a still. Oh, I want to know more -- how -- (Flash?) what program produces rippling mirror effects like these? You've sent me off googling.... thanks! Wave back if you have a moment or the inclination to share.
Calming. Serene. Very Algis...
So beautiful, and cool and refreshing...wish I could dive right in! Thanks for sharing, Algis and Byron--love the photos & the words, too! :)
Nice shots and thoughts for a brutally hot weekend -- and it's supposed to be like this for the next month. Only two months of summer? Maybe on the bad years ....

Loved it as usual.
Lovely. If we had summer all year round, it might not seem so sweet. The photos remind me of Andy Goldsworthy's stick in the water reflection pieces.
Soothing water, cooling and calming. Thanks for this in the midst of the heatwave that is currently the Midwest...
zanelle, Your a genius for saying that...Thanks!

Anya just Anya, Yeah life is strange...

AtHomePilgrim, Yeah there is nothing like it. These lakes have no boats either.

Vivian Henoch, Thanks so much. Yes watereffect.net is the place that I made these from.

Ahhhhhh....cooooooool!! RATED!! :)
Your pictures are moving! Plus, you used one of my favorite words: insouciant!
"I think back to the myriad

opportunities I have missed:

it alarms me."

As it should alarm everyone. Get it while I'm still here.

Lovely photos - and I have one that will benefit from that rippling thing. Getting right on it (a Myriad opportunity!)
Algis,
What lovely photographs and poetry!
Algis, this is a great looking photo essay with the added attraction of the ripple effect! Heatwave there may be, but your photos are very, very cool!!
Looking forward to my little tour de Quebec, so I, too, can say Je me souviens. And it will be of lovely days such as these, lovely people such as you.
Apart from the ripple effect, I love the composition of these photos--especially the top one.
Lovely photos, Algis. Ducks, Forget-me-nots, blue skies and puffy clouds . . . each carries its own beauty, rippling into cooler places in our hearts.
♥R
I know people think the word amazing is used to much but it is the most fitting word to use. Your talent is amazing and beautiful. That you can so easily transport me to another place and time is comforting and I thank you for this.
Another brilliant post.
Your photography goes beyond magnificent,
with the water effects
I felt like I was floating
along on a summer day
part of the earth and water
part of the plants and animals
part of your essence underneath it all
delightful journey
Thank you so much

This was EP from the first picture to the last. Great Job!
Your pictures here are like some sort of magnetic liquid. The pulse flowing between your shutter finger and your eye make it all look...different and better. Enjoy your current and next adventure!

Holy moley...I can't wait to see how this technique goes viral here on OS! (Calling Harry's Ghost!).
So lovely...I've been discussing with friends how, these days, I get panicked in July because I start to anticipate the end of summer. I'm a sun woman, who can't be out in the sun too much due to high risk for melanoma. But I feel it so deeply from the shade, and certainly slather myself in sunscreen and love the long days, getting out on the water...so silly to anticipate an end in the middle of what we love, eh?
Algis, you create beauty where there is none. I feel refreshed and very cool.

Lezlie
You like Philip Glass too. I love what Bowie did with his work. Anyway, gorgeous, magical, dreamy post. Just like summer.
That water effect does create the feeling of the shimmer of heat, where life ought to be lived, by the side of a lake...an algae-free lake...
Beautiful photos and effects!
I hope we get a summer here in the Oregon mtns., all the intense heat across the country is drawing the Pacific coastal cool temperatures this far inland this year. Very rare, it's normally boiling hot by now...
Oh. Just oh. And very many thanks.
These are so cool and inventive. -R-
I just finished towelling off after a quick dip in one of your very interesting pics! It's around 98 here today so these were refreshing!
Thanks...
Cool, Algis. I suspect this only works for images that were beautiful in the first place, but thanks for the link - let's see what it can do for drawings ... :-)

The flow of the pictures and words are perfect.
Heart wrenchingly gasping lovely. The water effect was distinctive, but the overall composition was a march through my summertime memories.

The singular pink flower (not the small cluster) was my favorite, and the lines:

I was summer-insouciant

once;

now, missing a front tooth

and zero cash,

it’s a stretch...

Ahhhhh, yes! Best words with picture. Probably why its my favorite out of a lush arrary.

Aside from that singular pink flower I liked the duck shots and that they were separated from one another- even duckies embrace summertime.
mistercomedy And you are too. Thanks!

As Muhammad Ali said, "Rivers, ponds, lakes and streams - they all have different names, but they all contain water. Just as religions do - they all contain truths."
Waterful, waterfall, wonderful, wonderment! Love these photos so much, and the words too!
After getting into my car at mid-day -- watching the swiggles of heat pour out when I opened the door -- these pictures do make me feel cooler!
Thank you for the ride.

Mark Van Aken Williams, Thats so cool coming from that source. Thanks for sharing it here.

janicephelpswilliams, So glad to have read that wonderfully watery comment. THX

Bellwether Vance, Oh that is certainly the sign of heat. Thinking of that it would be interesting to take images through that heat wave to see what happens. Thanks for the idea and for the comment as well.

Dr William Lee, It was certainly my pleasure giving you a nice ride on the waves then.
Makes me want to get the dog, jump in the car, and head for the nearest lake. Thanks!
great piece, algis! i love the one of the feet sticking out of the water and the kid on the sand spit. looking at these makes me cooler already - and i really really need that. whew. oh, and may i have some blueberries, please? :)
Mr. Culture Great! just what I wanted for you!

Candace Mann Thats so wonderful...Those blueberries are all over the place now. I went back to where I made this and there twice as many.So many I could not help but keep grinning as I ate as much as I could pick then picked more for my pals. Wish you were here to enjoy both the berries and the cool lake water that has no motorboats on them so they smell and taste sweet.
No need for words. r+
