Mimetoliths & Shapeshifter, my films

I've been showing a lot of photographs here at Open Salon, but I'm also a videographer. Two of my feature videos are on Culture-Unplugged, on-line film festival in their full-length versions. The works are exquisitely scored with original music by Guthrie Lowe. I now invite you to take a look at them and if you love them maybe you can go through the hassle of signing up, using the button for your facebook account on the site and voting for them.

This is my award winning, hour-long documentary on Mimetoliths, stones and rocks that resemble living beings, one of my life-time pursuits.  Mimetoliths won best Doc. in Greece and was the People's Choice in the Night Gallery Film Festival. It was shown by the United Nations Environmental Film Festival and played several other festivals. It is also a visual game, inviting the viewer to see how many mimetoliths can be spotted in the movie?

This shorter (half an hour) film is called Shapeshifter. It played at the Chicago Short Film Festival. It takes place in Montreal and India durning the Kumbh Mela where thirty million sadhus and pilgrims gathered to celebrate this unique event. The film examines the relationship between the various stages in a person's life, shape-shifting between the youth, middle age and old age of the hero.

It seems to be an app that wants my personal info and I don't approve those. I'll go back later and find a way in.
excellent work...very creative!
I shall have to check those out. I am an avid history buff. One thing I've noticed is a complete lack of adequate documentaries regarding the smaller, less "touristy" historical monuments of Greece and Turkey.

For example, apparantly there are enormous ancient markers and monuments at Thermopylae, Chaeronea and the like, but nobody writes about these, or takes photos of these anymore. In fact, its almost as if they are totally forgotten. An up-to-date photo exhibit or documentary on the subject, marketed toward ancient history buffs would be guaranteed to make a fortune. Especially since many of us are financially strapped in this recession and can't make the trip to Greece/Turkey ourselves to see this stuff.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Chaeronea_%28338_BC%29

Here, this is one of the most famous battles in antiquity, and there is a massive lion monument at the battlesite, but its very hard to find up-to-date photos, pictures or video of the site or national park there. Same with Thermopylae and other sites in Greece. All the websites focus on the Acropolis, Oracle at Delphi, Mount Olympus and the like, but all the smaller more interesting historical sites are forgotten.

I love your work. Very inspiring to me. Thank you.
Wonderful! We have a documentary film festival in my town. It would be so great if you would enter your films, then you could come visit because they only bring films where the director will come to the festival too!
Sorry, I meant filmmaker not director. I knew I was using the wrong word, but took the one that my brain was supplying.
:(
I bow to your magic ma cher.
HUGGGGGGGGGG

I look forward to delving into your art.
I will make time to watch these when I return this evening, your films and photos are rich and beautiful. They feel very real and solid and are soothing when I feel anxious or fearful. I'm really looking forward to hearing the music too. I remember how good I felt watching the one you did with all the colors and flowers.

I remember much of the beauty you've shared with us. I really liked the fish that came to you year after year. You're very generous about sharing your art, I'm more grateful than you know.

You do such wonderful things with film Algis.
I bow in your honor.
I love this.
Thanks so for sharing.
Algis, wow...that's an impressive documentary! I'm wondering how many months it took to produce the film? I am figuring a 60 minute film like yours must have taken at least 6 months or more to film, edit, narrate, etc.
Re: Mimetoliths. I have no words to describe my personal experience watching this film. Only tears!
I'll be checking out later this evening when I've returned home again. My personal favourite of your past vids, while in a more humorous vein, was the "Caring for Cats" one, with "Lindsay Lohan" and that stirring soundtrack.
Algis, I watched this over the weekend but then got waylaid before I could comment. The cinematography and land and ocean and stones are all just breathtakingly beautiful! Also, I love the little stone man dancing at the end...and the wonderful interviews. Thank you so much for sharing your beautiful work!

So amazing Algis! What was that in your pipe? Looks like the adventure of a lifetime!
Susie Lindau, Thanks! It really was an adventure and still is. I cherish all the Mimetoliths I find on occasion. The search for faces in rock continues and eventually morphed into my Born in Stone Portfolio.
