I've Done Three Years @ OS

Rate: 13 Flag

I won’t make it to the OS party Saturday tonight. If the doomsayers are correct it could be the last New Year’s Eve blast ever. End of Times predictions and all that. Not worried about it myself but just in case, we went to a big party last night with live music and good times for dozens of friends and celebrators. By this time in our life, unfettered revelry doesn’t happen more than once in a weekend. So we started early Thursday night.

This 12/31 is going to be a get cozy, light a fire and stay inside night. One of us will wake the other before the clock strikes twelve, so we can go outside and see illegal fireworks going off at the park north of here and listen to neighbors clanging pots and pans. It’s been a quiet neighborhood for the most part for decades. One set of especially regular type neighbors, who have since moved away, did come over one year around 1 a.m. dripping wet from their hot tub, wearing hand towels. They had locked themselves out of their own house. They were not hand towel sized people. I felt a little nervous myself in that situation. I left the lamp off so we would still be able to speak to each other after that. Then we chatted in the dark and waited until their children drove across town to rescue them and apologize for their parent’s behavior. The new neighbors have never used the hot tub so we’re expecting it to be low-key around here. But…you never know.

January 1st is also the day I first came here with a comment or post, so this marks three years ending and a fourth starting. No predictions. Just wishes for the best for all.

Hang on. I think 2012 is going to be a wild ride.

Hey …Wait a minute……that is a prediction. We’ll just have to see how it goes.

Looks like I will be the first to be frisked! Happy Blogaversary, aka. I will be spending NYE the same way you and your family will. I'll wake up when the shooting and fireworks start, curse them all, roll over and go back to sleep. Woo hoo! :D Happy New Year!

Lezlie
@ L in the Southeast,

Woo hoo indeed.
Happy New Year back to you.
Sounds like a good night. Enjoy and congrats.
Happy 3 and happy New Years!!

I have a feeling ringing in 2013 is going to be a let down for some!! :D
@ rita shibr,

Staying in on 12/31 has been the usual and it's always fine. We like us.
Happy New Year to you as well.
@ Tinkerertink69,

Thanks and same to you.
2013. That sounds sooooo far away. I'm a bit stunned that 2012 is only a few hours away. 2012 was the future.
Happy Blogaversary! I was going to go to the park tomorrowat midnight but I seem to be viral, so there you go. Maybe next year.
Congratulations on your 3rd anniversary and Happy New Year!
@ phyllis45,

Thanks for coming by.
Don't bloggers want to go viral?

@ Erica K,

Happy New Year to you as well.
aka: "They were not hand towel sized people." Great visual, ha.
Having "done" three years kind of sounds like a prison term though I can tell you've enjoyed it ... as your presence here has also been enjoyed. I've always liked your style and humour. Myself, I won't be making any resolutions but I will surely be setting some intentions.
Congrats ...
Me too, 3 years, at the new year!

You have been a delight to know , sir, cuz of your wittiness
and deep wisdom and of course your vocabulary tips. I am sorry to hear
that you are so old that you are using expressions like “ this time in our life”
because that means you won’t be around much longer, and I need all the readers
I can get. I’m a bit jealous of you, having such a fine old gal as you do, for so damn long.
But then again, I value my privacy, and I imagine you don’t get much
of that. Or perhaps u do. Don’t you take off into the woods
on mysterious spiritual journeys once in awhile?
I take spiritual odysseys across town once
in awhile, myself. I usually regret it.

so: these new neighbors, if they showed up in handtowels, after an hilarious
hot tub mishap, would they be worth keeping the light on for?

I like naked women, but not when they are wet, for some damn reason.

I’m young so I shall be partying the night away.
Got an extra bag of Doritos!
Scarlett literally took the words out of my mouth.

Loved the hand towel imagery. Andn the line quoted by SS.

I've enjoyed your posts and comments , and wish you both a happy blogiversary and a very happy new year.
Congrats & Happy New Year!
Congrats! I'm in my 7th month with OS. I've enjoyed it. See you soon and I'll read more. Love that you were self employed 30 years. I'm nine years from being employed. Itchy. Retirement seems sublime.

Happy New Year!
@ Scarlett Sumac,

Glad to make you chuckle.
I haven't made any actual resolutions yet either. At least none that I'm telling anyone.
Happy New Year to you.
@ JME,

Sir, I wish for a great new year.
You're quite welcome for the vocabulary tips and if I possibly can, I will try to get something for you to replace "eschew". You've darn near run that gem into the ground.
As to being young enough to party, I did actually play 3 1/2 hours for a house party last night. Not bad ,eh?

Happy New Year
Gorge if you wish and
Eschew all the healthy snacks until midnite.
@ fernsy,

Your posts and observations often give me a good laugh as well.
Thanks for coming by today and Happy New Year to you.
ESCHEW gettin way old, old man.u are right,
as always.
ah but i am in a mood where everything is old.
hoping to flip it to a mood
where everything old=new again. if i can.

3.5 hrs, eh? not bad. i salute yer virility.
Delightful post to celebrate your third.
Happy new year and happy returns.

I hope that your New Year's Eve party is at least half as great as the pre-party was:)
sounds like the perfect way to ring in the New Year. And Happy Three Years! Glad you're here.

@ FusunA,

Thanks for taking time to read and leave a comment.
Happy New Year.
@ hugs, me

The towels have brought a few chuckles here it seems. Much better to read about than see I assure you.
Have a great 2012.
Stay dry.
@ John A Bayerl,

Haven't seen you in these parts before.
Best wishes in the new year.
@ Unbreakable,

Thanks for the kind words. Both you and John A Bayerl wrote of strength in the face of adversity yesterday.
I'll wish you both a Happy New year filled with perseverance.
You're gonna need an Exorcist to rid you of that hot tub image! Now I have to do the same! Have a Happy one! R
@ Marylin Sands,

It was a great evening and I hope the same was true for you.
Happy New Year.
