Honor this day

Rate: 1 Flag

A gang jumped and mugged a man this morning. When they opened his wallet and saw that he was in the military they returned what they took, apologize and did a fist bump salute for his service for his country.

Who in the Vietnam generation could have imagined that? For that matter, who could have foreseen it prior to 9-11?

We are at war in at least six countries, only two of which are reported on regular basis on the news. We provide a police like presence for the world. We work with the militaries of most every nation, including those that only 20 years ago would be on the other side aiming their weapons at us. We provide disaster relief, infastructure repair, the cavalry who rides in to the rescue. We do it at great personal and national risk, for our women and men who serve and for our country.

Today is the day to take a few moments to all day to remember all those who have served in the American military and to say "thank you". Veterans Day.

At 11 AM take a moment to say a special thank you, as at the 11th our of the 11th day of the 11th month what we now call Veterans Day began with the World War I Armistice, the end of the War to End All Wars, with barbaric casualty levels to weapons of mass destruction and hand to hand combat, forever changing America and the World.

Find some way to honor this is more than a day off of school or work or just another Wednesday.

How sad that we only dedicate one day to these brave men and women (present and past). They each certainly gave more than a day to protect us.
