The pictures were taken on State Street - the original parade route. I'll bet you remember that the festivities were always held on the afternoon of March 17th -- not on the weekend before. Offices emptied andthe bars were packed. All commerce came to a halt that day.
The bottom picture was the product of my unsuccessful attempt to photograph Mayor Daley (current mayor's father), but he was surrounded by the fellows in the bowler hats and trench coats.
