I can't tell what it is. All I know is it's kind of weirding me out.
Tomatoes? I'm hoping it's tomatoes.
nanatehay - your reaction is certainly understandable. These items did grow in a garden at one time in the not so distant past, however they are NOT tomatoes....
Radishes? Pickled radishes? I hate Miracle Whip, even viewing the jar is making me ill -- the bloody fuid and egg-like things swimming inside complete my nausea. Of course, if I was invited to your home I'd eat whatever it was without complaint and ask for seconds and the recipe.
Onions, first guess.
Potatoes, second guess.
Garlic, final answer.
Bellewether -- your manners are impeccable! Luckily I wouldn't be offended if you were to take a pass on these (although they taste much better than they look) because we are at my in-laws.
They are not pickled radishes, tho....
Gabby -- they are not onions, potatoes or garlic......but excellent guesses! I promise the answer will be forthcoming....
Just please don't tell us they're woodchuck fetuses. Please.
No fetuses of any kind!
Okay....the answer is: FIGS!!! IN A JAR!! My in-laws had a bumper crop of figs in their yard this year and they couldn't eat them fast enough so my father-in-law cooked them in some syrup or sugar -- or something and put them in old miracle whip jars in the fridge. The contents of the one shown above have already been consumed as of yesterday afternoon. Thank you all for visiting and playing!
I thought for a moment they were tonsils.:)
