This blog is about the journey from here to there. Early posts have devotional poetry and prose with scripture included. Many deal with the difficulty of having people in my life who are living with cancer and have died from cancer. Now I'm focusing on going back to college in my 50's and discovering a new path to direct my art--which is art therapy. _________________________________________ All of the artwork I created unless otherwise noted. Cell phones and Brain Tumors 15 Reasons for concern

Rate: 3 Flag

  -brain-image-cell phone

Yesterday my employer gave me a blackberry as a sort of perk for a job well done. Last night, my daughter informed me that they watch CNN student after lunch at school, and they said that blackberries in particular cause brain tumors. This lead me to a little research in which I found the following article. I copied this article directly from the wesite: Mobile Madness published August 25,2009. There is a link to a 44 page Pdf of the entire report. Pass it on!

Cell Phones Cause Brain Tumors by Daniel Black

Hands-Free-Humor-CellphoneThis has been a long running debate:  Do cellphones actually cause or increase the risk of brain tumors?  Well according to a new study the answer is yes.  The report done by EM Radiation Research Trust that actually began in 1999 reveals what the authors call a “systemic-skew” to greatly underestimate the risk caused by radiation from cell phones.

The report concludes:

  • There is a risk of brain tumors from cell phone use
  • Industry funded studies tend to underestimate the risk
  • Children are more at risk than adults

The study lists what it calls, “15 Reasons for Concern”:

  1. Industry’s own research showed cellphones caused brain tumors
  2. Subsequent industry-funded research also showed that using a cellphone elevated
the risk of brain tumors (2000-2002)
  3. Interphone studies, published to date, consistently show use of a cellphone for
less than 10 years protects the user from a brain tumor
  4. Independent research shows there is risk of brain tumors from cellphone use
  5. Despite the systemic-protective-skewing of all results in the Interphone studies,
significant risk for brain tumors from cellphone use was still found
  6. Studies independent of industry funding show what would be expected if wireless
    phones cause brain tumors
  7. The danger of brain tumors from cellphone use is highest in children, and the
younger a child is when he/she starts using a cellphone, the higher the risk
  8. There have been numerous governmental warnings about children’s use of
    cellphones
  9. Exposure limits for cellphones are based only on the danger from heating
  10. An overwhelming majority of the European Parliament has voted for a set of
changes based on “health concerns associated with electromagnetic fields.”
  11. Cellphone radiation damages DNA, an undisputed cause of cancer
  12. Cellphone radiation has been shown to cause the blood-brain barrier to leak
  13. Cellphone user manuals warn customers to keep the cellphone away from
the body even when the cellphone is not in use
  14. Federal Communications Commission (FCC) warning for cordless phones
  15. Male fertility is damaged by cellphone radiation

It’s really frightening to consider how many of us continue to do things we know almost certainly will cause irrevocable damage, sometimes to the point of death. Silly, silly human beings, always ready to live in denial as we feed our addiction to material goods. I think that’s why they used to call consumption a disease ;-) I really shouldn’t be punning about such things, but I couldn’t resist.

You're absolutely right Starlings!
That's scary! It seems like everything we do causes cancer of some sort!
Yet another example of watching out for mixed blessings !!!
