This blog is about the journey from here to there. Early posts have devotional poetry and prose with scripture included. Many deal with the difficulty of having people in my life who are living with cancer and have died from cancer. Now I'm focusing on going back to college in my 50's and discovering a new path to direct my art--which is art therapy. _________________________________________ All of the artwork I created unless otherwise noted. The Tree of Life and the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil

Rate: 8 Flag
Psalm 44

After God made all the creatures
he made Adam and Eve.
They were as close as you can get
to innocence and incorruptibility,
having just been brought to life
by the breath of God.
God foreknew everything before
it was created including
the role of the serpent.
Tempting them to eat of the
Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil
the serpent said,
"Your eyes will be open and you will be like God"1
So they ate and their eyes were opened
and the first thing they noticed is
that they were naked.
Their focus was on themselves.
 God confronted them
and banned them from
Eden never to have tasted from
the Tree of Life that promised eternal life:
" See the man has become like one of us,
knowing good and evil; and now,
he might reach out his hand and
take also the tree of life and live forever."2

For a short time Eden was as
heaven on earth.
Our first Mother and Father
doubted God and chose
the tree of duality
severing their direct connection
to heaven through the tree of life.
This duality manifested when
Eve gave birth to two sons,
Cain and Abel.
Cain soon became jealous of
God's regard for Abel
and killed him.3

When Mary was asked to receive
the Son of God, she had no doubt.
"Let it be done to me according to Your will." she said.
When Jesus was born and
His ministry underway,
though tempted in the desert,
never doubted God.
Jesus said to his disciples,"The Kingdom of God has come near."
"See, I have given you authority to tread on snakes
and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy;
and nothing will hurt you.
Nevertheless, do not rejoice at this,
but rejoice that your names are written in heaven."4

At the Last Supper,
Jesus broke bread and said, "
This is my body that is for you,
Do this in remembrance of me."
Is he not inviting us to eat of the Tree of Life?
Jesus spoke
of the one who was to betray him,
he showed them who would,
by handing Judas a piece of bread:
when he received it, Satan entered him.
Jesus said,"Do quickly what you are going to do"5

Brothers and sisters,
examine your heart, so when you partake
of the remembrance of Him
you do so with discernment.6
Let us not doubt as Thomas did but
believe in the Resurrection,
believe that Jesus breathed the
Holy Spirit.7

Just like His Father whom He is divinely
connected, Jesus foreknew
the actions of good and evil.
Because he was the true vine,8
and He was One with
the One in heaven,
He understood the divine
purpose of it all, and He
had no corruption.9

Taste and see the
Incorruptible One!
Do not doubt
this passage to heaven!
For Our God is a God of consolation10
knowing the innocence and capability
of His children  and had a plan all along
that our plight was not death but life!
Rejoice in the living!
Rejoice and choose with an open heart,
the Oneness of the One
who breathes the breath that is everlasting!

1 Genesis 3:1 Now the serpent was more crafty than any other wild animal that the Lord God had made. He said to the woman, "Did God say, "You shall not eat from any tree in the garden'?" 2 The woman said to the serpent, "We may eat of the fruit of the trees in the garden; 3 but God said, "You shall not eat of the fruit of the tree that is in the middle of the garden, nor shall you touch it, or you shall die.' " 4 But the serpent said to the woman, "You will not die; 5 for God knows that when you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil." 6 So when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was a delight to the eyes, and that the tree was to be desired to make one wise, she took of its fruit and ate; and she also gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate. 7 Then the eyes of both were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together and made loincloths for themselves

2Genesis 3:22 Then the Lord God said, "See, the man has become like one of us, knowing good and evil; and now, he might reach out his hand and take also from the tree of life, and eat, and live forever"— 23 therefore the Lord God sent him forth from the garden of Eden, to till the ground from which he was taken. 24 He drove out the man; and at the east of the garden of Eden he placed the cherubim, and a sword flaming and turning to guard the way to the tree of life.

3 Genesis 4: 3 In the course of time Cain brought to the Lord an offering of the fruit of the ground, 4 and Abel for his part brought of the firstlings of his flock, their fat portions. And the Lord had regard for Abel and his offering, 5 but for Cain and his offering he had no regard. So Cain was very angry, and his countenance fell. 6 The Lord said to Cain, "Why are you angry, and why has your countenance fallen? 7 If you do well, will you not be accepted? And if you do not do well, sin is lurking at the door; its desire is for you, but you must master it." 8 Cain said to his brother Abel, "Let us go out to the field." And when they were in the field, Cain rose up against his brother Abel, and killed him. 9 Then the Lord said to Cain, "Where is your brother Abel?" He said, "I do not know; am I my brother's keeper?" 10 And the Lord said, "What have you done? Listen; your brother's blood is crying out to me from the ground! 11 And now you are cursed from the ground, which has opened its mouth to receive your brother's blood from your hand. 12 When you till the ground, it will no longer yield to you its strength; you will be a fugitive and a wanderer on the earth."

4 Luke 10:16 "Whoever listens to you listens to me, and whoever rejects you rejects me, and whoever rejects me rejects the one who sent me." 17 The seventy returned with joy, saying, "Lord, in your name even the demons submit to us!" 18 He said to them, "I watched Satan fall from heaven like a flash of lightning. 19 See, I have given you authority to tread on snakes and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy; and nothing will hurt you. 20 Nevertheless, do not rejoice at this, that the spirits submit to you, but rejoice that your names are written in heaven." 21 At that same hour Jesus rejoiced in the Holy Spirit and said, "I thank you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because you have hidden these things from the wise and the intelligent and have revealed them to infants; yes, Father, for such was your gracious will. 22 All things have been handed over to me by my Father; and no one knows who the Son is except the Father, or who the Father is except the Son and anyone to whom the Son chooses to reveal him." 23 Then turning to the disciples, Jesus said to them privately, "Blessed are the eyes that see what you see! 24 For I tell you that many prophets and kings desired to see what you see, but did not see it, and to hear what you hear, but did not hear it." 25 Just then a lawyer stood up to test Jesus. "Teacher," he said, "what must I do to inherit eternal life?" 26 He said to him, "What is written in the law? What do you read there?" 27 He answered, "You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your strength, and with all your mind; and your neighbor as yourself." 28 And he said to him, "You have given the right answer; do this, and you will live."

5 John 13:1 Now before the festival of the Passover, Jesus knew that his hour had come to depart from this world and go to the Father. Having loved his own who were in the world, he loved them to the end. 2 The devil had already put it into the heart of Judas son of Simon Iscariot to betray him.
21 After saying this Jesus was troubled in spirit, and declared, "Very truly, I tell you, one of you will betray me." 22 The disciples looked at one another, uncertain of whom he was speaking. 23 One of his disciples—the one whom Jesus loved—was reclining next to him; 24 Simon Peter therefore motioned to him to ask Jesus of whom he was speaking. 25 So while reclining next to Jesus, he asked him, "Lord, who is it?" 26 Jesus answered, "It is the one to whom I give this piece of bread when I have dipped it in the dish." So when he had dipped the piece of bread, he gave it to Judas son of Simon Iscariot. 27 After he received the piece of bread, Satan entered into him. Jesus said to him, "Do quickly what you are going to do."

6 1 Corinthians 11:23 For I received from the Lord what I also handed on to you, that the Lord Jesus on the night when he was betrayed took a loaf of bread, 24 and when he had given thanks, he broke it and said, "This is my body that is for you. Do this in remembrance of me." 25 In the same way he took the cup also, after supper, saying, "This cup is the new covenant in my blood. Do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of me." 26 For as often as you eat this bread and drink the cup, you proclaim the Lord's death until he comes. 27 Whoever, therefore, eats the bread or drinks the cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner will be answerable for the body and blood of the Lord. 28 Examine yourselves, and only then eat of the bread and drink of the cup. 29 For all who eat and drink without discerning the body, eat and drink judgment against themselves.

7 John 20:21 Jesus said to them again, "Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, so I send you." 22 When he had said this, he breathed on them and said to them, "Receive the Holy Spirit. 23 If you forgive the sins of any, they are forgiven them; if you retain the sins of any, they are retained." 24 But Thomas (who was called the Twin ), one of the twelve, was not with them when Jesus came. 25 So the other disciples told him, "We have seen the Lord." But he said to them, "Unless I see the mark of the nails in his hands, and put my finger in the mark of the nails and my hand in his side, I will not believe." 26 A week later his disciples were again in the house, and Thomas was with them. Although the doors were shut, Jesus came and stood among them and said, "Peace be with you." 27 Then he said to Thomas, "Put your finger here and see my hands. Reach out your hand and put it in my side. Do not doubt but believe." 28 Thomas answered him, "My Lord and my God!" 29 Jesus said to him, "Have you believed because you have seen me? Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have come to believe." 30 Now Jesus did many other signs in the presence of his disciples, which are not written in this book. 31 But these are written so that you may come to believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, and that through believing you may have life in his name.

8 John 15:1 "I am the true vine, and my Father is the vinegrower. 2 He removes every branch in me that bears no fruit. Every branch that bears fruit he prunes to make it bear more fruit. 3 You have already been cleansed by the word that I have spoken to you. 4 Abide in me as I abide in you. Just as the branch cannot bear fruit by itself unless it abides in the vine, neither can you unless you abide in me. 5 I am the vine, you are the branches. Those who abide in me and I in them bear much fruit, because apart from me you can do nothing

9Acts 13:32 And we bring you the good news that what God promised to our ancestors 33 he has fulfilled for us, their children, by raising Jesus; as also it is written in the second psalm, "You are my Son; today I have begotten you.' 34 As to his raising him from the dead, no more to return to corruption, he has spoken in this way, "I will give you the holy promises made to David.' 35 Therefore he has also said in another psalm, "You will not let your Holy One experience corruption.' 36 For David, after he had served the purpose of God in his own generation, died, was laid beside his ancestors, and experienced corruption; 37 but he whom God raised up experienced no corruption. 38 Let it be known to you therefore, my brothers, that through this man forgiveness of sins is proclaimed to you; 39 by this Jesus everyone who believes is set free from all those sins from which you could not be freed by the law of Moses.

10 2 Corinthians 1:3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and the God of all consolation, 4 who consoles us in all our affliction, so that we may be able to console those who are in any affliction with the consolation with which we ourselves are consoled by God. 5 For just as the sufferings of Christ are abundant for us, so also our consolation is abundant through Christ. 6 If we are being afflicted, it is for your consolation and salvation; if we are being consoled, it is for your consolation, which you experience when you patiently endure the same sufferings that we are also suffering. 7 Our hope for you is unshaken; for we know that as you share in our sufferings, so also you share in our consolation.

Just beautiful, Anne! I am e-mailing this to some of my friends. The Psalm and painting are both lovely! R.
Thank you Patty! Great spread the word!
you are one naive young girl with all the good & evil beliefs, so try reading Black Elk Speaks before you speak of the "Tree of Life" and read "The Four Agreements" by Don Miguel Ruiz to learn from the Toltec Wisdom Book....both are better than anything in your false and phony bible....so, try Tribal to look, listen & learn.......
A lovely meditation, Anne - the picture is beautiful.
28 spirits I have read black elk speaks and it was a very good read. Perhaps if you read a few more of my psalms you will see that I'm not that naive. I'm speaking of duality vs oneness. And I know black elk speaks of oneness.
Kim thank you so much and thanks for stopping by!
naive anne,

a good old german messiah lutheran minister condemned me to hell at age 13 for playing in boys club basketball tournments rather than swear my love and alligance to some fake jesus christ, the son of god
for me, the only "Tree of Life" is at annual Sun Dance every June on the Rosebud Rez......my spirit has been a warrior for my 28 past lives from the Stone Age to Vietnam when the masters were gods to LBJ and sec. of defense mcnamara's rules of engagement, so I will read your psalms if you will read my sonnet poetry from the Stone Spirits of the Four Directions?
Thanks Jali, it's good to have some consistent friends on OS!

Art: I would love to read all those things the only I have read is Gospel of Thomas, but I think you demonstrated what too much reading can do, thank you for telling me I have a good mind and I have potential if I'm reading you correctly, I will at least read Hardy (I did get the psalm book) but have barely cracked it-- much time I spend hounding my daughter to do her homework and to do this little bit. I would love to be able to read and paint and contemplate...maybe if I ever get to retire I can do so. Embrace the darks? It's all God he had to give his say for the serpents above, it challenge us to learn what we're made of, not to buy into. I don't think I will be a scholar though I'll leave that to you it hurts my head too much.
I always enjoy reading the verses as poetry and the images you find to accompany, Anne. This is a lot of work, thanks for sharing it all.

He wrote THIS:`
I paraphrase it:`
I left my Story in the barn so that someone else could/would keep milking it. I left my Story in the clothes-store fitting room so that someone else would wear what don't fit me anymore ( I add, those embarrassing lose fit`Husky childhood pants, heehaw.). I left my Story at the VAMC Hospital because my wounds wouldn't stop bleeding anymore. I left my rusty body at the body repair shop because my Body always wanted a different Body. I left my Story with some cash so that my Body would not say`Woe, a Poor me.

I left my Story with someone else.

I left a Story without saying `Bye.

No.

I didn't want a Story to follow me!
I didn't wish a Story to notice, bye!
I'll probably rant and vent forever!
Keep simple. Practice days of quiet!
Thank you.
Who knows?
Nobody does.
I get it I never thought of this as a stage but yes it is and perpetual at that. Everyone is going to have their opinions and have read something else and have different point of view--I accept that I welcome that because we don't discuss how will we grow. I knew getting into this I have to deal with opposition/disagreement and I'm going to have to develop a tougher shell I imagine--and oh yes as I toss the toy to my dog, sometimes a smile of a dog says it all.
Thanks Funsun I enjoy reading your stuff too. It is quite a bit of work, but it good because I'm learning and growing and one day I might be able to just write from the heart like a poet.
Well done, Anne. It flows very well and your thoughts are clear and life affirming.

Monte
Thanks Monte your approval means a lot!
I see the squiggle-ling form of the tree, the implication of movement, the changing nature being inherent. That duality of existence reinforced by the words. And I love the colors!
NOV- that's what I like about abstract art! I never saw that as a squiggling tree sprout but I see it now. The name of this painting is "flaming sword" After the flaming sword at the gate to the garden of eden. I love using natural patterns (as the sunflower spiral) and illuminating them. Then the figure in the back is an angel
I couldn't read this yesterday, something in me told me it wasn't time. Now I'm here and again I understand my inner voice has better timing than my logic. There are many confirmations of what I'm seeing in myself in the poem and scripture. Regardless of the "religion" the true answers for me are always the same. I tried to see what others see in the painting, I see the beauty but just with my outer eyes. I'm a little sad that paintings don't speak to me but happy that words and music do. I had only one dream left that I struggled to understand the message my sub conscious sent last year. Having read your post I see the metaphor, if only my memory was as good as my listening. I'm headed off to my little notebook to read what I recorded about my "odd" snake dream.

I'm incredibly grateful for this post and poem, I arrived wishing it would be something from Proverbs instead. As always I found more than I could have wished for.
Very interesting piece. I like how you personalized this shared information. rated.
l'Huere Blue: I think you see more than you realize, your spirit feels something your mind just needs to connect to.I used to have vivid symbolic dreams-- I don't so much now. When I felt I had a dream that I knew was trying to tell me something I used the gestalt approach , where you become everything in the dream. Like I am the staircase I feel this, I am the floor, I am the snake, I am the old man, the woman, the baby the lampost. Very often it was the thing that seemed the most insignificant revealing the most significant insight. Snakes have many different meanings to different cultures. I had a dream with an ouroboros (snake eating it's tail) years ago that my mother and grandmother were in. Without going into all the details the ouroboros was a metal object that had a crack in it. Somehow from that dream I got that there was something I had to mend in the generational feminine power on my mother's side. I agree with you that truth can come from anywhere in fact I love in the old testament that God speaks through a jackass!
Carole: it means a lot that you would find my post interesting in that you are exposed to so many interesting things living in the big apple.
I appreciate you stopping by!
Have you been hanging around Reverend Dr. Monte lately?

I sense collusion here.

Very abundant Lenten post, Anne.
Just Cathy: Collusion?

col·lu·sion

–noun
1.
a secret agreement, esp. for fraudulent or treacherous purposes; conspiracy: Some of his employees were acting in collusion to rob him.
2.
Law. a secret understanding between two or more persons to gain something illegally, to defraud another of his or her rights, or to appear as adversaries though in agreement: collusion of husband and wife to obtain a divorce.

No. But I take it as the highest compliment if a well-educated theologian/pastor approves of my interpretation of scripture. I am a lay person who loves God and I hope it shows.Thank you for stopping by and I hope you were blessed by the abundance!
Beautiful poetry and beautiful painting. Both from the heart.
A good way to start the day. Bless you!
