This is a repeat of the post so it will show up on the feed. Oh, the things we have to do to get noticed! If you want to see the comments with the attempts to answer, see the last post here.

I haven’t been able to focus on anything lately - anxiety does that to me. I have done some hit-and-run commenting but can’t marshall my thoughts enough to actually write anything meaningful. Anyone else having that problem?
So, here is something completely meaningless, and I hope, distracting for a few minutes. If you are over 50, like me, then you may be able to answer the following cultural pop-quiz for old farts. The first person to answer all correctly (without checking Wikipedia - no cheating!!!) will win a prize, which I am still trying to generate - maybe it will be an mp3 of an oldie but goodie.
Flashback!
1. Why did the purple people eater come to earth?
2. What do we wear in his honor?
3. What 50s song includes the phrase “I feel higher than a kite can fly” ?
4. Who comes out of the blue of the western sky?
5. What was his niece’s name?
6. What was Fess Parker’s favorite headwear?
7. What was Imogene Coca’s outfit in It’s about Time?
8. Who was Annette’s main squeeze?
9. Who was Maynard G. Krebs?
10. Who provided the eye candy on the first Jackie Gleason show?
Bonus: What was Ernie Kovacs never without on his tv show?
ANSWERS:
1. "I wanna get a job in a rock n' roll band."
2. "We wear short shorts" (though now that I've listened to the clip, I think it was HE wears short shorts. But, I've remembered it all these years as WE.)
3. " Scotch n' Soda" by the Kingston Trio c. 1958
I remember all of us singing this song at camp; I think I was 7 or 8 at the time. Budding alcoholics, all of us. I don't think this song would be near as popular these days.
4. Sky King, the aerial cowboy
5. and his niece Penny!
I couldn't find the intro without the commercial, but hey, it's still a classic.
6. Yup, Davy Crockett, King of the Wild Frontier with his coonskin cap.
I had this theme song on a 45 and played it constantly. My first crush was on Fess Parker.
7. Furs! Yes, a cavewoman, with Joe E. Ross.
It only lasted one season, but the theme song has remained one of my strongest memories. Can you believe that Richard Donner directed this?
8. Tommie, on the Mousekateers, though Moondoggie (Frankie Avalon) also gets full points, since I didn't specify that I meant the TV show.
Annette was my favorite because she had dark hair, like me.
9. He was Dobie Gillis' beatnik sidekick, played by Bob Denver.
High school doesn't change much, does it?
10. The June Taylor Dancers
I don't remember that much about this show, but I did remember the theme song and the dancers. My step-mother was one of the dancers when she was young. Love the intro commercials!
Bonus: Ernie with his cigar!
I really don't remember the show, but notice in this skit spoofing live ads the trademark cigar hovers like a third castmember.

Ralph - Bob Hope's show! Thanks!
Buffett's "Pencil Thin Mustache":
I wish I had a pencil thin mustache,
The Boston Blackie kind
A 2-toned Ricky Ricardo Jacket
and an autographed picture of Andy Devine.
I remember being buck-toothed and skinny,
Writing fan letters to Sky's niece Penny
Oh, I wish I had a pencil thin mustache,
then I could solve some mysteries too.
Anyway, obviously I'm into "old fartdom" too. Because I remember as a young boy fantasizing about Penny along with te other "buck tooth and skinny" kids in my neighborhood. Nice post.
