Not really live... but still here

 7:25pm

Well, here I am. I didn't send out an OS invite because this isn't much of a party. The 'party favors' (how many euphemisms can I use?)  didn't materialize and really, I don't drink all that much so I'm a little bit mopey tonight. And completely sober.

But, I'm here, such as it is.  I put a chicken in to roast, not because it's Christmas but because it's supposed to start snowing sometime tomorrow and I don't expect to be able to get to the store til Monday or so. This way I've got food no matter what.

And, I had set up the fire pit earlier today so I had a mini-bonfire of the banalities tonight. What I mean is I burned past year's paperwork that I was too lazy to shred. '97 is burnt to a crisp now, a year that I thought I was happily married, had a business, lived here in Asheville. Maybe I can have 12 days of burning, one year burnt for every day. '98 goes up tomorrow night.

Somehow I still think it would have been more fun with someone else here, or failing that, a good buzz on. Oh well. At least I was destructive.

8:05pm-

I'm a little annoyed - my mini-bonfire won't go out, in spite of my careful woodsmanship.  Lets see what I can make that mean. Hmmm - Feed Me Seymour?

Very dry wood, I guess. A bucket of water will do the trick, but that's so messy.  Oh well, better than having to continually watch it.

8:55pm

Hey you guys - I'm being a downer tonight, and I've got nothing in particular to say, other than... nevermind.  Hope your evening is far more fun.

I'm not working very hard on this - I'm not even generating forced merriment.
I don't think I know you, but I hear you. What do I do now: rate?
Hi Stacey - well, like Facebook, where the only choice you get is to "Like" - there are no "Dislike" "Sympathize" or Buck Up" buttons to push - so to Rate or Not to Rate is the question.
I wish I were closer I would bring my old shit and burn it up with your old shit and we could have well got shit faced :)
Maybe next year! I hope your mood gets happier from love sent you from here. I am so happy you came by!
Lunchlady, that sounds great! Maybe next year indeed. I had the sense, watching my bank statements burn, that there was a tradition in there somewhere. There are pagan traditions of burning wishes for the new year, but to make it real for our times, burning our old shit is much more symbolic.
I also thought I was happily married in 1997. I'm going to try your burning exercise.

We kindled our fire with our pile of shredding too. I wish we were closer - you would be welcome over here, not that it's super exciting or anything...
Willie - I can tell you that burning gives a sense of finality. Use the chant of your choice.

Blue, thanks for the thought, your home sounds cozy tonight!
Wishing you some happiness tonight, Ardee. Waiting for my kids to show up with Chinese food. Careful with that fire.
Here in Louisiana they light bonfires on the Levees for Pere Noel to follow to their houses along the river. Maybe Santa is homing in on your house right now!
I feel the same way. I my go to bed early. Although I don't believe in Santa Claus, I've been wrong before. Merry Christmas~~
Trilogy - Chinese food sounds just about right. Thanks for the good wishes - delivered your card to Mission today. You are a sweetheart.

nola - I am pretty sure that Santa has better things to do tonight, but the fire seemed right somehow. It must be great to see a row of bonfires on the water!

Scanner, I just noticed that it's already 9:30 so bedtime is coming up soon. May Santa bring us world peace and full employment while we sleep!
I'm about to retire early, but first, I wish you some cheer and warmth with that fire. Let's make the best of what's left of 2010.
Hey dude - sorry I had to bail. Hope you are having a decent Christmas Eve.
"world peace and full employment"...that shouldn't be too much to ask of Santa. thanks for delivering the card. Merry Christmas.
Sometimes just being "there" is all there is and that's enough. Such lonely strength is a hard, narrow thing. That you've honed such strength against the whetstone that is this hard world reaches to me with a stinging sorrow. Yet you are here and that is a grand, fine thing this night of our savior's birth. Merry Christmas and a wonderful New Year my friend.

FusanA -hope your evening was warm and fulfilling. Thanks for your good wishes!

Trilogy- yeah, Santa needs to step up his game!

Scylla- You may have an elevated view of me - clearly you didn't read my last post! :) But thanks for reading between the lines. Hope your Christmas is a good one.
Token, it would have been great to share the fire with you and we could have passed a bottle if not a bong. Good luck on the job front. Thanks!
Well, Ardee. Hope your night went well. I doozed off and ust got up. Snow is falling outside and it is quiet here. I hope your night went well.
Hiya, Ardee. Thought I'd check in this morning, and sure enough, there you were. Good. Was offline yesterday evening, or I'd have been blogging right along with you.

And what a swell idea to have a bonfire. Wish I'd thought of it.
Last night I went to bed early, but my sister called around midnight and we talked for 2 hours - mostly gossip about my other sisters. Somehow it felt like going home and sitting up together in the kitchen til late doing the same. It was good.
Today it's all snowy and I'm socked in. That's ok, other than having to put up with snow-phobic cats. And, I had my Christmas Latte, complete with eggnog and rum and some Christmas chocolate. OK, I'm celebrating in the most familiar way.

Kate- Thanks! The burning wasn't planned to be cleansing but I think it did the trick.

Mission - not too bad. Hope you are doing ok snowed in up on the mountain.

Boan - It's not too late, though my firepit is under about 4 inches of snow right now. Hope your Christmas morning is a good one.
