I've had a week. 7 days of non-stop painting, dealing with plumbers and electricians, managing details and volunteers, and even worse, spending frightening amounts of money. I've dropped by OS for a few moments here and there, reading a paragraph or two, and then I had to stop. I am exhausted. I got in bed at 7:30pm last night, and I was still tired this morning. And I hurt. All over. And we haven't even moved any furniture yet.
But, it's coming along. I'll take you on a quick tour, just after the painting has been done, the electrician has put in the track lighting and the plumber has done the washer/dryer hookup. Internet is in now too.
Here is the main room last Saturday as we started to paint.

Yes, those walls are green. The dark colored areas, a column on the right and the trim for a showcase on the left? Purple, Dark Purple. The floor is a dark green.
Here's the same view, down the main gallery area, today, after it's been painted:
Warm white walls, gray trim and dark gray floor. The French doors are a light gray, but the daylight is turning them blue in this photo.
Here's a view from the French doors, looking back into the gallery:
Most of the lights are off in this shot, but you get the idea. The staircase on the left goes up to the street, and the main entrance. It's a big space. And this is only half of it.
The back area wasn't used by the former tenant except for storage, so it was filthy and neglected. But it's fully half the space, and I'll use it for studio space and for selling yarns and tools and the like. This is my new studio:

There's a utility room on the left, where the washer is going, and a bathroom on the right. The tracks are in, but I have to buy more fixtures and bulbs tomorrow. That window on the left looks out on the gallery, and customers can watch me work in the studio. If you look at the gallery photo above, you can see that window lit up on the right.
This is the materials and tools space:

This room is bigger but I don't have a wide angle lens to get it at this angle. It will be filled with shelving and baskets of fleece, yarn, drop spindles, spinning wheels, and weaving looms.
The back room will be for sitting and spinning, knitting and other relaxing pursuits. This is taken just before I painted the floor, so it's still dark green - you can see a bit of the gray gallery floor at the bottom of the photo:
I have a little patio outside in the back for more outdoor seating when the weather is nice, but even better, I have natural light in a basement space. This back patio will be wheelchair and delivery access and a good place to sit outside and have a beer at the end of a day.
I'll be bringing in display fixtures next week and new artwork, so I'll take more photos then. Opening Day is next Saturday. Moving day tomorrow. I will likely not be back for a day or two while I recover. Oh, to be a lazy artist again and sleep late!

myself! But it will be nice to have a place to show my work too.
Thanks Patrick! Come by the next time you are in town!
Thanks Diana, I'm on my way now!
Barry, thanks for the good vibes you are sending my way. Now I just have to talk you into showing something here!
Roy - big smile here, too!
I can only imagine how beautiful this will be, full of coloured artwork and materials.
So good to see the realisation of your dream Ardee.
Rest well. You still have more to do.
Thanks ONL!
Kim, green is the color, right? Thanks. And I want lots and lots of bright color in there, hence the neutral paint colors.
Linnnn - I hope it will be eclectic! And it is very cozy. Which is good since I will be there every day.
Mission, I expect you to come down and see me when the weather gets better! We'll sit on the patio and watch the sky.
Rita, thanks! Since this will be my life for the foreseeable future, I will probably be posting lots of photos. The greatest thing for me will be the opportunity to make something... and then share it immediately with people. Up til now, I had to wait til a show. And people don't buy clothing on the web. So I'm really excited!
Thanks so much Mary!
