Do you have Dog Poo on the Brain?

Rate: 1 Flag

Perhaps not but if you are a home owner or renter who lives near a park that allows dogs, then you may be thinking about it.  The proper disposal of dog waste is becoming a 'smelly' topic on the internet thes days.  I have seen posts both on Entrecard, from 'Slightly SArcastic' blog,'The Admaster' is another of her blogs on blogging and online business help and even on 'The Junk Drawer', blog where the writer said that she prefers cats as they cover their waste in litter boxes, rather than dogs.  Seems to imply that the dogs are at fault here.  What do you think?

Some dog owners don't bother to pick it up when their dog does his or her business, even if it is on someone's front lawn! They figure it will disintegrate naturally anyway.  Others carry plastic bags that are not biodegradable and pick it up as they think it is the responsible and right thing to do, only to clutter already overwhelmed land fills.

What is the right answer or way to dispose of pet waste? Many dog parks and runs have pooper scooper receptacles that are green and have green lemon-scente biodegradable plastic bags hanging off them.  This is pretty good for those who seem to not carry or remember to bring 'paper' bags, which is the best bag to use as is biodegradable and FREE!

Dogs are not the only offenders but cats as well, are responsible for a lot of pet waste hanging around the planet these days. Did you know that the popular and cheapest clay litter for cats and cat boxes, is not biodegradable and shouldn't be flushed? Wiser alternatives are your cedar and wheat blends of litter that are biodegradable and can be thrown into compost piles.  Since cats are carnivores as well as dogs, their waste though shouldn't be thrown on a compost pile but the urine can go there.  "What do I do with the dog poo then?!" you may be asking yourself.  You can make your own septic system out of a garbage  pail by cutting out the bottom and digging a hole and then putting the can over it.  Throw feces in it from pets and then just add septic fluid like "Rid-ex" to it and voila!  It breaks down the waste as Rid-ex has a bacteria in it that eats waste! Pretty neat huh!? Proper Pet WAste Disposal Read more at the link below.

sorry, new here, not sure how successfully import from my blogs.

Post deals with your thoughts on picking up and disposal of pet waste. Wha do you think shoul be done wiht it? Some leave it to disintegrate on it's own while others pick it up in plastic nonbiodegradable bags filling up the already overwhelmed landfills! What do you do or do you even care?! Tell me what you think on my comments page eiher here or on myblogs. Thanks! -Ann, The Pet Pro
The solution to pet waste is to NOT put it in the trash! This puts waste in the local landfills where it can contaminate the water source. Pet waste is known to be one of the leading causes of ground water contamination. Composting is also a poor solution as many experts claim that composting does not create temperatures high enough to kill the bacteria present in pet waste. PetHabitats.com sells the original, 100% flushable bag. It's unique, two ply design allows the bags to hold together when they need to yet dissolve quickly in water. We also offer the WasteAway which is a back yard waste receptacle that mounts easily to your home near the plumbing cleanout. You simply scoop the waste, deposit it into the WasteAway, give it a quick shot of water and the waste is flushed into the sewer system. This keeps pet waste out of the trash and our local landfills.
