'AMERICAN FAMOUS SINGER JORDIN SPARKS TRANSITIONS FROM SINGER TO ACTRESS IN 'SPARKLE'

For every singer who triumphed in film, there are dozens of people who have not. Jordin Sparks hope you fall into the first category.

"I always wanted to act," said Sparks, speaking on a fast machine. "I want to be known as an actress, but I also like singing, which is known to be very good at that."

Sparks, 22, made the trip to the cinema in a big way. Take the lead role in "Sparkle" recalls a musical drama, a remake of a film from 1976. As major studio album, the movie usually care. Add the fact that the executive producer and co-star, Whitney Houston, died after shooting, and you have a movie with a lot of eyes on them.

Sparks is no stranger to action, but not to that extent. She has appeared in youth theater productions of television as "Cinderella" and "The Wiz" came before capturing the attention of the nation as the winner of "American Idol" in 2007. She was 17

"I always knew that the game was something I wanted to do, but my love for music was No. 1," she said. "But it came and it was very strange."

Strange, because everything seemed so perfect. Sparks recently to sing her Broadway debut in "The Heights", forcing him to dance and play. Then, a few months before he learned of the new version, they rented the original "Sparkle" by Irene Cara and Lonette McKee as brothers and members of a fictional girl.

"I loved it," he said. "I loved the script, I loved the music. Later, when the audience arrived, I thought it was a little strange. Saw the movie again, and I thought it was crazy, but I like a little Irene Cara. And the name? "Spark", "Sparks" and go! "

Taking things seriously
"Sparkle" director Salim Akil was immediately impressed by the sparks and not just because she is a singer with a first platinum album (the second disc was less well received).

"I think you need a certain level of creative intelligence to be able to do what Jordin done," says Akil, who led the popular "Jumping the Broom". "I do not think it's a natural thing, just because you can sing. If this would work, and should be taken seriously.'ve All seen what happens when a singer comes and not take it too seriously."

Sparks has the process very seriously. With the help of a friend, a car, went page by page through writing.

"I've never seen anything where I had to go through the words on the page," she said. "I had about what the characters think really lived and studied every little thing."

The result: An actress willing to work on the set and came up with some more.

"I learned that the script back and forth," she said, laughing. "I do not know my lines, I know that not everyone lines, too."

Before filming began, she spent several weeks. In the recording and choreography with costar Tika Sumpter and Carmen Ejogo sisters playing and singing partner in the film

"We went to unite and work together, even before we got together," says Sparks.

Add on set was probably Akil said he offered a subtle brand orientation.

"Instead of saying," You are all wrong, he said: "In this next shot, we can try this another way?

Meanwhile, Sparks Akil not think beginners or no attention.

"Maybe she was approached by the other, but I did not know," he said. "I do not feel the need for further treatment."

Sparks admitted that he felt more comfortable in the dynamics of sequences of musical films, in which he sings songs like Curtis Mayfield "Look Into Your Heart" and R. Kelly "Love Will" and "One Wing".

"I liked everything, but sometimes it was a little out of my comfort zone in the scenes where I can talk to someone," he said. "But behind the scenes of the execution, which was:" OK! I'm in my element! '

Train part
Although the film is a remake and retains some of the songs from the first film, it does not follow the original note for note. The new film is about 10 years later, in the 1960s, and the action moves from New York to Detroit. The characters are twisted: Satin, played a character in the original Hell, comedian Mike Epps.

Although the spark character names the original film, the film is more vitality played the character of Sister McKee. Give a bit of an imbalance in the original, I saw some of both Sparks and Akil.

Scenario Mara Brock Akil is right for some, that, for example Sparkle now writes songs from the band, a plot device that was not in the first film. It is also more independent and motivated.

"The original, in fact, is actually a kind of sister film," Sparks said. "We make it Sparkle movie. Sr. striking and sensual. Shine has talent, but it is too early nervous. Sparks But when she finds her voice, that kind of clicks and turns."

The director said that when his wife ", wrote the script, I wanted to take the spark own destiny."

"It speaks for itself. Giving this woman, and I wanted. Some depth to follow people"

However, it recognizes that shine, especially in the initial phase of the movie can not beat some viewers as a fascinating character, and some do not understand the subtlety of the actress.

American Idol "because he was so young when originated", "People have this image of being friendly Jordin quiet and peaceful," says Akil. "In fact, it is a very safe, young woman determined and honest."

It shows a scene in which the first spark says he wants to be a star for friend Stix (Derek Luke), before learning that the plan is for them to sing backup sister.

"There is a deep history with a look," said Akil. "After that time, no one can doubt, Jordin Sparks actress".

Sparks seems to have answered the question already. She signed her second film, an indie drama "and the inevitable defeat of Mr. Pete", which is co-starring another "Idol" alum, Oscar-winning actress Jennifer Hudson.

"It's a different character and a lesser role as Sparkle, and no music in himself," says Sparks. "I think it's very different for me."

With his career about to move in a different direction, you would think Sparks is all nerves. Instead, it comes with the same kind of determination of youth served him well "American Idol."

"I came to rookie to know how everything works," he said. "But they believed in me enough to give me this role, and I will not disappoint anyone."
