Bio
"Nel mezzo del cammin di nostra vita," I find myself still asking some of the same questions I did when I was just a punk kid. The Big Things confuse me. Fortunately, though, many little things delight and amuse me, and some Big Things--my wife, our kids, our bird and bunny visitors, food, baseball--make me very, very happy. In my pilgrimage, I try to be guided by the wisdom of dear old Auntie Mame: "Life is a banquet!"

A Video Teaching for the Day

Rate: 10 Flag

I don’t usually post videos, but I couldn’t resist with this one. The piece is short—just three minutes—and, I think, sweet. A teaching for the day, with a bit of humor and a lot of wisdom. Not heavy, but profound.

“Why do I spent so many of my waking hours trapped in the outer circumference of the inner richness of the life I am living?” Why, indeed?

Time to let go of your misery, ¿sabes?

Nothing but love can fit through the gate.
Most excelente, Pilgrim, gracias ~
i liked this so much i linked to it on my FB page. if only the people who really need to stop spending their lives wallowing in woe-is-me instead of diving into the gorgeousness of life - (not me, of course, not ever, uh-huh) - would read it. [sigh]

i'm typing this comment with the completely unfounded but trusting prayer to the hamsters that, on the fifth try, it will post.
All I can say is: "Amen, brother!"
That is a profound and amusing video. It brought back memories of us putting up a tent in our backyard, which we'd stuff with air mattresses, a TV, VCR (with long cables) and snacks -- and we'd zip ourselves in. Mom, Dad, Son, Daughter Dogs, Cats. As much fun as it was I do remember thinking, "What in the hell are we doing out here when there's a big screen TV and a comfy couch in the family room?"
This was neat. I want to go hang out in the Vance tent!

On the hottest summer nights, I sometimes drag my sleeping bag out to the backyard so I can sleep in the cooler air. There is a real mansion out there, the night sky for the ceiling, crickety sleeping music, and a sea breeze air conditioner.
Enjoyed this immensely and you quoted the key question.

That gate...narrow indeed.
I would love to hear more from this guy . . . his approach is so simple, but so very profound. Thank you for sharing this with us!
We are really attached to the things that make us miserable - this was so enlightening and proof that you can say a lot without saying so much.
Thanks Pilgrim.

Today I choose not be content to live discontented. Just for today.
The more I think about that, the more revolutionary the idea seems to become.

These are great questions, and this is a great post - I'm grateful.
Today, anyway ;-)
been in a funk, and this was perfect with my coffee this morning Pilgrim (it can't be the Phillies, what a team!) ..
Choosing to be content is a good choice, thanks for this neighbor..
