Bio
I'm your Hillbilly Aunt. I was Born, raised, and I'm now residing in Arkansas. I have a MFA in Creative Writing, for what that's worth. I'm child-free, dog-mothering, liberal, over-read and over educated, sometimes snarky, sometimes sweet, sometimes pathetic. I use this space for all sorts of random things, but eventually it all comes back to Arkansas.

OS Collage: The Hillbilly Version

This looks so funky because it's a tin-type photograph taken when I was seven or eight at Silver Dollar City.

Wedding

This is Your Real Hillbilly Aunt and Norwegian Uncle at our wedding last March.  Yes, that's a huge gap between my front teeth. I did say Hillbilly, didn't I?

I love the first photo and completely adore the second. You both look so happy. People in love are so lucky. Sigh of envy.
Both pictures are beautiful, and the colors of your dress and flowers together are so pretty.
I think you look really nice :)
Hey!! I love front gaps like that, my mom's got one. She got braces to get it corrected in her 40's and we all hated it, so she got them put back the way they were. :) got to love familial peer pressure
Nice to meet the real you, Hillbilly Aunt! (I have the gap too, and I grew up in California... ;)
My dear, I also have a huge gap between my teeth. Les Blank made a documentary called "Gap-Toothed Women." He explores all the lore about us. Turns out, we are considered Hot! Hot! Hot! Or Hawt, if you prefer ;)
I stand corrected! See that gap between my teeth? It's means I'm a HAWT hillbilly! :D.
My Norwegian Uncle looks so freakin' happy!
Oddetteroulette -- thank you, my dear. We were pretty out of our minds happy that night. He treats me like a queen and coddle him like a concerned mother bird. We work well together ;).
Overworked -- I think he's about to start laughing hysterically in this picture. We drank a lot that night :D.
MzEll -- thank you kindly!
One of my favorite comedians, Terry Thomas, had a huge gap between his teeth. It only added to his charm.

(Is that a washboard you're holding? Did you do laundry or play in a jug band?)
Wayne, no it was one of those old time dress up pictures. I guess the photographer thought I looked good with a washboard. I did learn to play the spoons, though.
HBA - have now downloaded the image for the OS Collage. Thanks. BTW, if you haven't done so already, please rate Skeptics' post for OS Avatar Collage Version 2.0 so it will stay on the front page and get more exposure for the project.
I can't think of anybody I personally know who has a gap between their front two teeth- except for me! And then, I stop by here...and everyone has one!...I'm excited now! (for some odd reason).
Your pictures are beautiful and I love, love, love the hillbilly pic.
I stand corrected. My Norwegian Uncle looks so freakin' drunk!
I do love that bonnet, as I have mentioned before. Even more, I appreciate the chance to see you, Shelle.

Of course, from my perspective, you seem more like my Hillbilly Niece.
I'm hillbiilly born and bred and proud. My teeth are fine, but I do have a large gap between my left and right ear sometimes.

Beautiful pic. You're both such a glow. Congrats!
There was a documentary out about 10 years ago, or more,
singing the praises of GAP TOOTHED WOMEN - title

Praise Be
Congratulations on your wedding! You both look ecstatic.
Gaps between the front teeth are very special. I dimly recall a convention of gapped folks celebrating together.
rated for happiness.
Love the washboard pic...it makes me think you're still pondering my lack of cousins.

The present day Hillbilly Aunt is fabulous! Looks like it was a fun wedding.
I love both pics. You look so happy in your wedding pic -- as it should be! I'm glad you posted these.
Going to Silver Dollar City was the only vacation my family could afford when I was growing up. That and Meramack Caverns (Jesse James hideout!)

Love the wedding photo - it's cute how hubby's corsage looks rather hastily pinned.
so good to "meet" you. I'm excited to learn that the old-time photo is really you - guess I thought it was an old-photo of a hillbilly aunt of yours.

you are one radiant and beautiful bride. I totally did not notice a gap. and if I had, it does not take anything away from your gorgeous smile.
I love wedding photos ;0)
What great pictures! I didn't think the bonnet one was really you but now that I know it is, I appreciate it even more. I love your wedding photo, too. You both look so happy. And good gosh, girl, do not fuss for one second about a gap in your front teeth. You have a beautiful smile. Show it off!
Happiness...It's evident.

rated for some HAPPINESS!
:-)
The best to you both.
Greg
I didn't get to go to Silver Dollar City till I was grown. And then the thing that made the biggest impression was the fried bread!

You all look so happy. You deserve happiness, hear tell, and I'm so glad you found it. Cheers!
It's a flip of the coin, Hill! Both are terrific! Am partial to the first, though, for it's uniqueness and antique quality.
All of you rock! Thank you so much, everyone, for the fine compliments! I've been sick with a stomach virus the last couple of days, sorry it took me so long to respond.

Thank you Thank you! And don't worry, I'm not all that hung up on my gap. I'm just a little sarcastic sometimes!

Auntie
OMG, I cannot tell you how many times I went to Silver Dollar City as a kid. Started in late elementary and continued to high school graduation. Always took a friend along. I still have a picture of the birthday celebration we had for my friend--we'd gotten funnel cake with powdered sugar and put candles in it, never thinking that when she blew out the candles the powdered sugar would go EVERYWHERE--! I also got the sunburn of my life at the water park there. We couldn't wear anything except our bathing suits for about 4 days--blisters and all. And I loved the cave and the water flume at SDC on hot days (and weren't they all?!). I got one of those tintype pictures too, the ex still has it (if his wife didn't make him throw it out). Ah, those were some fun days.

And I agree with everybody else--both the tintype and the wedding photo are fab. :)
Great pics.

The two of you look wonderful!

:)
