
I made this rice dish for a family gathering that included some people who preferred brown rice and others who were adamently against it.
The Yin is brown rice, with brown mushrooms and onion sauteed in olive oil. The Yang is white rice with leeks and celery sauteed in safflower oil. Both are seasoned with salt, and the brown rice with pepper as well. The garnishes are a whole mushroom and a pearl onion, boiled.
Each half tastes good on its own, and they also taste good mixed together. (As one would hope!)
The secret to constructing the pattern is to start off with two circles of rice within the larger circle of the bowl:
