It became a constant struggle to enforce the adaptive P.E. for Andrew. Apparently, the physical education teacher would have to offer a separate class for this. She was not able to do so or simply did not want to. Somehow, Andrew's medical letter was always missing from his cumulative record. I knew this because I had to retrieve it periodically and remind the physical education teacher about Andrew's inability to perform certain tasks.
Eventually, I had to keep a copy in my possession at all times. Whenever things were going rough for Andrew during P.E., I would insist upon his need for adaptive P.E.
The guidance counselor requested another child study meeting. She was determined to have Andrew placed into a special educational setting for the emotionally-disturbed. I was adamant in declining these services. At the present time, there was not a program for Andrew. I learned to become very assertive that day. Since Andrew was making academic progress and his classroom teacher spoke favorably of him, the team dropped the issue at that time.
