Bio
I am not a writer. I do not enjoy writing. I like reading the posts here and have been for awhile, without commenting. I have suffered from depression since I was 19. It has been 15 years. I started on OS because I find myself gravitating to blogs about depression. I write for myself primarily. To try and understand what I am facing and where I need to go next. And because it is hard to be honest with people about how I am feeling.

Meet Craig Grant, founder of Caboodle Ranch. The 30-acre property is home to 500 unwanted felines. Using money out of his own pocket, Grant built an entire kitty-town, complete with lakefront cabins

I found this on Jezebel.com.
Yes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Bad part is if he gets sick or dies, what happens to all the kitties?
I did think of that, Harry. But I went to the website and it looks like he has some volunteers and they are trying to set it up as a non-profit. Or maybe his son could take over (his son's cat was the first one that started everything). But he needs donations as he keeps getting more and more kitties dropped off.
We had a cat man feeding strays behind the Canadian parliament buildings. When he got too old and feeble, other people took over.

Some days I feel more touched by people who take care of animals than people...

(I only have six cats myself...)
Thanks for posting the links. It is amazing how animals can change peoples lives for the better - even for people who thought they didn't like animals. RATED
only six, Myriad ? you need to catch up.
I only have one but I live in a small studio. I actually had to persuade my landlord to allow one.
I was touched by this guy as he seems kinda gruff and he didn't like cats at first. Now he spends 14 hours a day with them. I kinda want to go live there or at least visit. Maybe he could charge for tours.
thanks for sharing that. The world is full of people who rant/rail/whine about "what's wrong" as if the words alone were some sort of solution. It's wonderful to see someone who actually not only sees a problem but rolls up his sleeves and gets in there to do something about it. I'm still in the rant/rail/whine group but hope I'll eventually end up in the "do something about it" group. rated.
me too java jane me too.
although Craig has sorta inspired me. I'm not very good at working with people but I've inquired about volunteering at the local spca.
Hey new blog
I found out that zoo too article had some mistakes in it.
From the Caboodle website:
Great video, but there's a few wrong facts in the story that should be addressed:
1. It was said Craig had 150 cats in his apartment before his landlord asked him to leave. He actually had 5.
2. Craig never had a $100,000 to start Caboodle Ranch. He bought land, shelter, and whatever else was needed as he could afford it.
3. 6,000 a month does not come out of Craig's own pocket. It comes from the donations of generous people who genuinely care for this shelter.

Caboodle Ranch IS a non profit 501 (3) C organization, which relies soley on donations . Craig originally put in every penny he has in order to buy the land and establish the ranch. Craig has tirelessly worked the ranch on his own, putting in 14 hour days until recently, when volunteers have started to come by regularly. The ranch provides the best care and love a cat could hope for. They are healthy and happy and love their papa. I urge anyone to check out his website (caboodleranch.org) and 'high five' the paw for a donation of any amount. There is no such thing as a small donation! Every dollar counts! PS-there are strict rules for the ranch for newcomers and life long residents: they must all be spayed/neutered and have their annual shots...
Yeah, although the ZooToo article/video has truly helped put Caboodle Ranch on the map, there were some mistakes with some of the facts. Thanks for posting that batface....
