Chapter 1

Brenda couldn’t figure out why there was a commotion on one side of the office. Sam got up and went to the interviewing room, came back after 5 minutes, and spoke to Tom. Tom got up and repeated the same behavior after 5 minutes. Both of them turned to Brenda and said, “Can you interview Melissa?” Brenda had a confused look on her face and said “Ok, fine.” She entered the interviewing room and saw that Melissa was a large woman with broad shoulders.

 “Hi Melissa, what job are you looking for?”

“I’m looking for a light industrial job where I can do packing and light lifting…maybe something in a shipping company.”

“Great, why did you leave your last job?”

“I was let go because of my gender change”

“Oh, that’s too bad.”

“Yes, it makes me upset.”

“What were you doing in your last position?”

“Oh, I was a male model …it was a good thing then...I made six figures and then worked in the executive office of a fashion company.”

“Wow… so since then you’ve been struggling to find employment?”

“Yes.”

“OK. I’ll see what I can do.”

Brenda spoke further about the next steps in the interviewing process. She came back to her desk and was approached by Tom.

“How did it go?” asked Tom.

“Fine but I just don’t get how someone can lose such luck after a sex change…I mean Melissa made six figures when she was Peter.”

“Did Melissa tell you she was let go because of her sex change?”

“Yeah.”

 “Well, what you don’t know was there was lawsuit against Melissa when she was Peter. Peter was accused of sexual harassment.”

“Really? So are you trying to tell me that he changed his gender because of this allegation?”

“Yes, he said he changed his sex because he was wrongfully accused as a male and it ruined his reputation so he’s trying to make it as a successful woman. Although it‘s not working well at all.”

“Well, that’s rather negative…why didn’t you give her a chance?”
