Actions speak louder than words, the Obomb 'Em administration was pussyfooting around IMHO like they were never serious about the Public Option. And do you really think Rahmbo ever had the slightest bit of interest in the Public Option? He seems to be the one who is really president, like Cheney was in the 'Bush' administration...

This gives me even more confidence that Obama is effectively leading the country. Obama will end up both as one of the most popular and also one of the most effective presidents in US history.

It is a typical blind Obama follower that sees betrayal as confirmation of eventual mortality. Carraway is evidently one of those who could watch Obama sodomize a toddler on stage and then claim the kid pushed back.

I never thought Obama would follow through with any of his campaign promises. So this additional betrayal is no surprise to me.

My list of people who should primary Obama are better and they are not on the horizon. There is nothing ideological about the truth. Obama took an oath to uphold the constitution and he has broken that oath repeatedly. That is a traitor.

If a fraction of the money Obama continues to spend on illegal and immoral wars was instead directed to universal healthcare and medical research, perhaps Mission's fingers wouldn't pain her so.

I know you think that this is terrible, but as much as I am disappointed in many things about Obama, I still breathe a sigh of relief that McCain and Palin aren't in. I know, it ain' t much on one hand, but on the other, it's everything. We would have probably nuked twelve countries already (countries Palin can't find on a map or even pronounce), if those two were in. I really want a third party, though.

I read Taibbi and Greenwald and so feel very warned, but for many it takes a mainstream media source like the NYT before they pay attention. And then there are those who refuse to face the truth about their Obamamessiah no matter how "reliable" the source. Fucking partisan hacks.

I've long suspected there was such a deal; nothing else explains last year's dog and pony show. I hope the bill dies; it's nothing but a giant fucking over of the people who elected Obama, a gift to the for-profit medical industry. Of course they fix was in, but the real fools in all this are the R's. They were either to dumb or too scared to play Devil's Advocate and push for real reform -- knowing it couldn't possibly happen because the fix was in. Instead, with their intransigence and demagoguery, they are providing cover for the D's, who can now blame everything that isn't in the bill on the R's. And when reform fails, as it inevitably must since it does nothing to reduce costs, they'll be able to blame the R's for that as well.

From HuffPo actually. The proof of betrayal comes from an interview of a NYT reporter on MSNBC last night. The NYT still needs to publish. As usual they are sitting on their hands. Here is the salient quote:

On Monday, Ed Shultz interviewed New York Times Washington reporter David Kirkpatrick on his MSNBC TV show, and Kirkpatrick confirmed the existence of the deal. Shultz quoted Chip Kahn, chief lobbyist for the for-profit hospital industry on Kahn's confidence that the White House would honor the no public option deal, and Kirkpatrick responded:

"That's a lobbyist for the hospital industry and he's talking about the hospital industry's specific deal with the White House and the Senate Finance Committee and, yeah, I think the hospital industry's got a deal here. There really were only two deals, meaning quid pro quo handshake deals on both sides, one with the hospitals and the other with the drug industry. And I think what you're interested in is that in the background of these deals was the presumption, shared on behalf of the lobbyists on the one side and the White House on the other, that the public option was not going to be in the final product."

Kirkpatrick also acknowledged that White House Deputy Chief of Staff Jim Messina had confirmed the existence of the deal to him.

Moreover, his very big "D" on the ballot will continue as it has to sap opposition energy on the left. Byzantium was ruled in such a manner for many centuries, so it's not necessarily fatal, only very, very painful for the citizenry -- especially in their souls. i have to say, that is not a betrayal. you can't betray a pipe dream. we've seen how hard the right has fought the bill without a public option, and i have been paying attention.

i'll continue to fight for a public option, and hopefully i'll get a chance to fight for single payer again too... but i never expected washington to champion a solution that couldn't successfully be sold. that is what activists are for.
