America's New Hero is Gay and TV News can't handle it

We're all familiar with the story of the JetBlue flight attendant.  The luggage hitting the head, the cursing, the beer, the deployment of the emergency slide, the arrest, the possibility of seven years in the slammer.

What we are not hearing in the MSM TV reporting is that when the police came to arrest him, they interrupted him having wild monkey sex with his boyfriend.

Just an observation as I watch the morning news:  America's media loves a bad boy rebel hero, but still can't handle the gay.

This has nothing to do with homophobia, but it is fun:

I just read the Daily Times article. Excellent!
First it was Adam Lambert and now it's Steven Slater. We've got a long ways to go.
Prop 8 got tossed and there has been progress, but the road is still long.
BBE, thanks for posting the link! The Lady Clairol ads used to say "Is it true blondes have more fun?" I guess it's time to update the slogan!
Now the TV news is breathlessly reporting that there is great sadness behind Slater's smiles. Evidently Slater's facebook says he is taking it one day at a time getting through substance and alcohol addictions and that his mother is in stage 4 lung cancer. They mention he was arrested at home, but still no mention of the interrupted sexcapades.

He needs a good agent or attorney to parlay this time of fame into some personal benefit/gain.
I read the same thing. But, like you, I haven't heard one say they were getting it on when the cops got there. "They can't handle the truth". hah!
Angry Greek woman, I don't give two shits if the man gets his 15 minutes as a hero or three days in the sun or whatever is the viral internet meme these days. My point is that the TV anchor meat puppets and their producers cannot handle having a GAY "hero."

So while I appreciate your point and your rant, you are off topic.
If he was str8 and having hot monkey sex with his girlfriend when the police showed up to arrest him, it would be mentioned by the news anchors. There would be all sorts of hubba hubba jokes, hilarious innuendo and double entendre going on.

Instead, because it was hot monkey sex with his boyfriend there is silence.

My point is the TV news is not comfortable with the gay and the coverage of this story illustrates it.
Maybe he wasn't really having hot monkey sex, but just plain old, long-term relationship sex. In which case, no one would mention it, gay or straight.

Gotta' agree with Stellaa here. His sexual orientation has nothing to do with the story, and that's why I think it isn't being talked about. (Although, right or wrong, I bet most people already presumed he was gay - the whole "male flight attendant" stereotype thing and all.)
At the risk of being mobbed for asking, what did he do that's so horrible as to deserve 7 years in the slammer?

Ok, he deployed the emergency chute. The plane was on the ground and stopped, as I understand it. How did that endanger anyone? Short answer, it didn't.

I actually heard some jackass commentator asking, "Well, what if he'd done that when the plane was in the air?"

But he didn't. I honestly do not understand why the man deserves any jail time. Fired, sure, obviously. But jail time?

Why?
hilarious. yeah now he reminds me of perez hilton. a diva. a prima donna.
maybe he was angry that the girl was better dressed than he was :p
I don't really see why this story has gotten so big. From what I can gather, the guy got angry, decided he had had enough and left his place of work - granted, in a slightly unusual way. But things like these happen every day, surely? Gay sex certainly does.
I did hear a reporter on NBC refer to Slater's "boyfriend" today. NBC also interviewed Slater's ex-wife. She appears to be very supportive of him.
get this-- apparently he has a kid by an exwife. so he seems to be kinda bisexual, at least on paper.
I just read another article that said, based on his facebook acct, that he was struggling with "substance abuse problems".... hmmmm
Interesting points around the "table" ...and good report capture.
'gay hero 'is alas an oxymoron.
all people of cultivated understanding know
that genetic freaks like our boy here are chromosomally unable
to commit a non-narcissistic act. there can be no heroism unless
the life of a heterosexual is in jeopardy, you already know that,
so why screw with us? is it a narcissistic thing, maybe? this is what
i suspect,
I will believe, dear BBE, that being gay is a nonissue when they are covered just like anyone else out there in the world by the media.
I did get a glimpse of the byfriend and hear a mention of his sex orientation on a local channel here in Tampa Bay.
But laying all that aside, I do hope Prop 8 passes and the struggle for complete human rights shared by all comes to fruition.
I 'll be damned if I will ever get the why of others trying to measure human worth by sexual orientation.
A gay male flight attendant? I don't believe it. Actually, it occured to me, but is kind of irrelevant to his siutation. On the other hand, what was the flight like? Was it on time? Were there massive delays? News is a snippet of truth, repeated a million times. It resonated because most people want to grab a beer and find an exit.
