In praise of Caroline Hagood’s Pits!

Rate: 1 Flag

I recommend Caroline’s post on personal aesthetics and culture.  18 years ago a friend of mine, Hannah, decided to make a few dramatic choices, and she has stuck with them----as an art form.

For me, my own pit hair is so damn irritating---it gets removed for comfort, without any regard for aesthetics.   Past 40, my scalp follicles decided hair was unnecessary down the center of my head---and I’ve gone with that, regardless of the Rogaine ads.

I applaud all personal grooming choices, whatever they look like---and I envy the beards of Walt Whitman and most 19th century gentleman.

I don't know if this is a hormonal thing or what, but your post kind of made me well up. Thank you, thank you and thank you for this and other forms of support you have given me.
Sorry, but when I first saw your title, I thought you had misspelled the word "pits." (Sorry Caroline, I couldn't resist.)
as I've grown older three hair-related events have occurred: My head hair has disappeared, as have the pit-hairs, but my beard grows more determinedly than ever. I've gone with all three of them to see where they'll lead. Now the pubes, that's another matter. It would be more hygienic if they thinned out, but I refuse to shave them. I did once and it itched like mad.
I've always had a thing for natural pits on women—I guess I'm European at heart—and I've managed to get almost all of my girlfriends/partners over the years who shaved to give up the razor. Most of them thanked me for it.

It saddens me that there's a whole generation of young men—thanks to internet porn—who now think women are "supposed" to shave their pubes as well as their pits. Not that there's anything wrong with shaving...

Who am I kidding? I like it all.
