To Chicago readers - If you know anyone who can help with this situation, I'd like to hear from you.
About two months ago, a couple of dear friends lost their beloved sheepdog to cancer. He was 12 years old and had been with them since he was a pup. Their 4 1/2 year old son was very attached, and he's been going through an extremely difficult grieving process since his furry buddy has been gone.
His sadness turned to anger. In spite of my friends' efforts to talk to their son and give him plenty of positive attention, he is still in an intense anger phase, which is getting worse. They've been trying to find a good therapist to help him get through the grieving process.
They've sought referrals through two excellent local children's hospitals. So far they've been told that the earliest they can get a new patient appointment is two months from now, that their formerly happy boy is not in a crisis situation that would merit an earlier appointment. He's become hostile. He screams. He strikes out. He won't listen to them. It gets worse each week. Two months is nowhere near soon enough. He's already a wreck.
If you know a qualified therapist in Chicago who is experienced in childhood grief counseling and might be willing to see a new patient SOON, please send me a private message. Thank you!
