Hate crime? Gay sailor murdered at Camp Pendleton.

Rate: 1 Flag

CNN headline: Was Navy Sailor Killed Because He Was Gay?

Or, he might have been killed because he was black. Or, he might have been killed for both. When the military has a policy that requires you to hide who you are, to not know if asking for help because of homophobic harassment will get you protection or ruin your career, you are being set up for insanity and murder.

Unfortunately, in Obama's America, as in Clinton's and Bush's, bigotry is the law of the land. At least people knew what to expect with Bush. With Democrats Clinton and Obama, alleged liberals, you are told one thing and then are smacked in the face with the lie.

Just in the last month, Obama's DOJ, the Justice Department of the President who claimed he was a "fierce" advocate of LGBT rights, said that gay marriage was separate but equal, that gay people are not entitled to the same rights as straight people, even when their marriages are affirmed by states of the union. This flies in the face of the Full Faith and Credit clause of the Constitution:

"Section 1 - Each State to Honor all others
Full Faith and Credit shall be given in each State to the public Acts, Records, and judicial Proceedings of every other State. And the Congress may by general Laws prescribe the Manner in which such Acts, Records and Proceedings shall be proved, and the Effect thereof."

And, as if that weren't bad enough, Obama declared his unwillingness to put Don't Ask, Don't Tell on hold through the use of stop-loss. Stop-loss, has been used to involuntarily extend terms of service for more than 120,000 troops since 2001. But Obama won't use it to keep Arab language translators who are openly gay, like Dan Choi, in the service. So it is more important to kick gay people out of the service that it is to protect our national security by keeping translators in. And this need is not hypothetical. But, to Obama, repealing DADT is.

US Rep Bob Filner, Veterans Affairs Committee Chairman, told CNN that he was at Camp Pendleton for more than five hours on the day of the murder and was not told about the crime. He also noted that the policy is immoral because it puts people like Seaman Provost at risk and increases the likelihood of violence, since a gay service member would likely be afraid to report harassment because that would be "telling."

The idea that doing the right thing carries more weight than saying nice things is, apparently, foreign to Obama.

“All young people, regardless of sexual orientation or identity, deserve a safe and supportive environment in which to achieve their full potential.” Harvey Milk

"Seaman Provost was an outstanding sailor looking forward to a bright future. ... Seaman Provost was a rising star in our Navy." Captain Matt Brown

August Provost III is another victim of systemic bigotry.

So very sad. Thanks for sharing this. "Systemic bigotry," indeed. Well said!
