Bill: I don't think that Obama is the worst president in history. I still think Bush deserves that. But what Obama has done which is more consequential than what Bush did is that he has a) blocked prosecuting them for war crimes, which puts him according to international law, in violation of international treaties that require those who know of war crimes to bring those people to justice and b) legitimized and institutionalized monstrous practices such as the suspension of habeas corpus and gone even further than Bush dared openly (e.g., preventive detention of even those who have been found not guilty in a trial and ordering the assassination of American citizens).

Ocularnervosa: what does it matter that he didn't start those wars? He now has the power to end them, but oh wait, he didn't do that did he? He now has the power to enforce the laws against torture and prosecute those who have tortured. Oh wait, he didn't do that either. He now has the power to end torture and rendition under his watch.
