The Cracker Queen: A Memoir of a Jagged, Joyful Life. By Lauretta Hannon.
Lauretta Hannon grew up in a chaotic, dysfunctional, loving Southern family. She graduated from college, moved to Atlanta, and began a successful career as a college Public Relations officer.
After a while she found that she wasn’t living the life she wanted, and that the fault was hers. “Cracker Queen” describes her childhood and her efforts to become the person she wants to be, someone who loves life, is grateful for the good things, and generous to those around her.
Ranganathan’s law says “Every book it’s reader.” What that means is that even if you don’t find a book useful, there is probably someone in the library’s community who will.
Sometimes it’s hard to review a book that’s not yours, in Ranganathan’s sense. So I’ll just note that these are words that fairly describe Lauretta’s memoir:
- Funny
- Touching
- Chilling
But I’d recommend avoiding the self-help sections. It’s not that they’re a bad idea – they’re just boring and clichéd.
