Black Eddie's Journal
Black Eddie
- Bio
- In a checkered career, Black Eddie has put his hand to anything he could find to do: roughneck, farmhand, actor, carpenter, janitor, disc jockey, welder, cook, musician, mason, preacher, bartender, and lately, cab driver. The only jobs he would refuse are prison guard, telemarketer and hot-tar roofer, although if necessity pressed he would do that last. At least it is honest labor.

Bipartisan Baloney and the Problem of Evil, Part II
Calls for moderation and civility in the public debate are a perennial feature of American politics. They are usually accompanied by an exhortation to lawmakers to adopt a generous spirit of bipartisanship in the effort to address the nation's problems. This seems to assume that th… Read full post »
Bipartisan Baloney and the Problem of Evil, Part I
It should be no surprise that the horror of last weekend's attempted assassination of Representative Gabrielle Giffords would be seized by partisans of both sides, but especially by the Left, as a political opportunity. Liberals, lately much beleaguered, cannot resist the chance to fling heinou… Read full post »
It Was (and still is) the Economy, Stupid
In both print and broadcast media, the post-mid-term-election analyses continue unabated. One foresees that they will persist until they gradually transform into debate about the presidential primaries sometime around next Halloween. Actually, the presidential campaign has already begun.&… Read full post »
Republicans: Regressive and Reactionary
The estimable Ambrose Bierce once defined a conservative as someone who is enamored of existing evils (as opposed to a liberal who wishes to replace them with others, but that is a topic for another time). We should add that a conservative is also enamored of previously existing evils and dearl… Read full post »
Arizona...Otra Vez
In New Mexico (USA) there is a saying: We don't have lunatic asylums here. We send the insane to Arizona where they get elected to public office.
The lunatics have definitely taken over the Arizona asylum. Screwball extremists have always been abundant in the state's politics.&nbs… Read full post »
Narrrow-Minded, Bigoted Old Geezers
Racism, like alcoholism, is characterized by denial. We will often be treated to hearing someone commence a bigoted peroration, especially if he be unsure of our like-mindedness with his, by declaring, "Now, I ain't prejudiced, but these (niggers, spics, kikes, etc.) ..."
Likewise, in po… Read full post »
Letter From Arizona
The uproar over the fulsome nativist legislation recently passed in Arizona betokens no new thing. The state has a long history of reactionary politics, dating at least to the Civil War when it was briefly a territory of the Confederacy. Racist attitudes still run high.
