Jacob Marley’s Chains

Rate: 5 Flag

Jacob Marley’s Chains

No sleep engulfed my head last night
instead I wrestled with the sheets
a takedown left; a takedown right
from pillow touch, all through the night

No sounds awakened me in fright;
I could not put my mind to rest
and lay there waiting for the light
of day to come; to end my plight

The thought of Marley’s chains passed by
when bladder made me seek relief
returning to bed with a sigh
awake, I slowly wondered why

Some nights we sleep without a try
while others, we are cursed in thought;
left to much dark I pop an eye
to see if dawn is near to nigh

now morning and a sleepy me!

Oh, those are the longest nights...! Thank goodness when daylight breaks like a cracked egg. :)
Some nights we sleep without a try
while others, we are cursed in thought;

these are leftovers. we gotta get em digested.
if not, the psychological digestion system takes over...dreams..
banal and
ludicrous and too often profound.

in the day, the same problem:

"could not put my mind to rest
and lay there waiting for the light
of day to come; to end my plight"
I made it link by link and yard by yard... does its pattern seem strange to you?
Been there, body tired but brain saying, "play with me daddy!" BTW - Would you please pass on rules of English Haiku to me. I tried it and got the format wrong judging by the razzing I am getting. R - Duke
Duke my Haiku about Haiku was just a subtle way to say 5-7-5 syllables and I think there are variations on that theme. I'm no expert. I even flunked sophomore English but this pattern is what I understand as the format to Japanese Haiku. :)

I got a good nap this afternoon everyone and feel refreshed! Thanks for visiting.
