Cork

The life of a cork
came odd to me
that such an object
might have traveled far;
once born ‘neath the bark of oak,
twice used as a bottle sealer,
thrice as a bobber on cool, green water,
fourth as a junk drawer criminal;
forgotten, in a cell.

or worse
ground into a floor board

Very true, what a journey, nice craft.
Nice ode to the humble and well-travelled cork...sometimes they do come out of retirement for all kinds of creative endeavors... :)
We throw ours on the floor, because our cat loves to roll them around. They end up trapped, though, like you write aptly here - ours are under the couch! :-) Very well done!
