The Front

A storm is coming
I can feel it in my bones
although the sky is clear for now
horizon moans and groans,
the songbirds act as if they’re rushed
to do the things they do,
like gather seed
then fly to branch
and chatter morning through.

The trees are listless
as I watch their very tops
but soon the wind will kick and blow
and calm will lose all stops,
then earthbound things will take to air
as chaos comes to call,
then rain will reign
just for a time
when sunlight ends it all.
