On This Fourth Of July

On This Fourth Of July

And I dreamed we were wanderers
amongst the blown out buildings
we once called home;
smoke smoldered upward from everywhere
like geysers moving skyward
carrying our lives, as we knew them, away.

We had come to be complacent;
we acted like the Romans
in their final days,
eating grapes while the enemy
took over from within.

Now we are united in our plight,
moving through the motions of shell shock
and disbelief
as we wonder aloud
how this could have happened.

Then I awoke to reality
and found my dream
was not too far down the road
as I prayed for forgiveness
for letting Freedom rust away.

Enjoyed this thoughtful muse.
Thanks! Why the new name?

I just read the poll on MSN on what people were going to do on the Fourth of July and Knocking off a Convenient Store outvoted anything patriotic!
