Hi there, I was reading a post by Noah Tawls about the Inferno coctail lounge at 4038 Troost in my hometown, Cowtown usa, so I decided to write a brief personal history of myself as I spent alot of my life close to there, went to school there, had friends who lived close to there, so I feel connected and maybe a little nostalgic.
This at 59th and troost and I believe is the first place I ever worked. Also the first place I ever got fires from, probably for not showing up. Poor undependable me! We got high alot, I got to hang out with the so called cool kids in the neighborhood. The ones from public school. It was fun. It's closed now due to certain economic conditions, I think all the Texas Tom's are. Bummer, they had the best chilli dog in the 4 state area.
Later in that time period I got into a fight with one of the employees there and almost got strangled to death while his friend watched and did nothing but tell him to stop. Later I heard him say "If you would have killed him, I would never speak to you again." They were both named tim ironically. Thanks Tim's, for not killing me.
This is the old Electronics Institute building, now it's something else called the brookside frontier math and science school. I never finished and still owe about $1,ooo in student loans from years ago. I tried to pay it off , but the economy went south for the rest of the century.
Old cousin Jed's gas station, lowest price of gas I ever saw was about 35 cents a gallon while walking to school. Gonna have to guess what year that was!
This is right across the street from Jed's. It used to be some kind of electronics shop, I remeber it because it was the the only place I've ever been maced for no reason. Troost was always kind of a racial dividing line back then and still somewhat today. My and my friend Robbie were just walking home from school and these two tall , skinny black kids sprayed mace in our eyes. The guys in the store saw what happened and helped us wash out our eyes, but that was a very painful experience. Good times!
Mike's Tavern. A cool rock n roll bar that my band "Glamour Puss" used to play at. Nothing bad happened there that I can remember.
This is my old grade school, St. Francis Xavier. This is where I learned how to feel guilt for most of my adult life. I have one friend left from there, I love the guy, but he's still kind of an asshole. Lives in Florida now and seems happy. Good for him.
This is the church next door and yes ,they are affiliated. Impressive building and, as far as I know, no one has been molested there by a priest of nun or any other employee of God. Praise Jesus!, and I mean that.
Me being there but I have'nt been inside in a few years. God forgive me.
My asshole friends also conspired with each other and tied me to a tree sometime in 7th or 8th grade. God love em. Those nutty pranksters.
Maybe it was the telephone poll, I cant remember!
The intersection at 47th and Troost where some asshole tried to run me over while I was crossing on foot and had a green light. He was turning left and did a burnout and I just barely out ran him. I believe this was intentional!
Picture of an open lot where the Inferno used to be?
What a depressing gray day it is but at least it's not cold.
Free standing dome attached to nothing...................Me to.................''''''
Be well everyone, and merry cristmas!

"What do they do, what do they do at Bendix?
At Bendix they make triggers for nuclear bombs."
I'd forgot about Bendix. Troost has a little bit of everything, from bars and prostitutes to components for hydrogen bombs, and to this day it serves as the dividing line between black neighborhoods to the east and the white neighborhoods on the west. What a weird street.
My cat Smokey got killed last night. I fell asleep a while ago on my recliner and woke up and thought he was sitting on my lap.
Cool blog man... looking bleak on Troost, but then again, where is it not?
I feel your pain. I buried prince in my back yard after he was attacked by wild dogs, east of Troost by the way.
The shit hurts and I feel for ya ,man..
I may not have gotten much response from this, but I enjoyed doing it none the less. Viva la Troost!
Except the waterfall, indoor and everything? AWESOME!! :D
And damn it Nana, did you sit on your cat AGAIN? :(
the universal lounge is closed also. too much cleanup going on on troost.
They're trying to close down on of the adult places here that use to have a drive-in porno movie show!!
Why do folks have to stop our fun? Another PFFFFFFFFFFFT!! :D
amusement park on 75th and prospect, a street not unlike troost.
Yes, the Inferno has been torn down, I just took a picture of the wrong vacant lot. It's directly across the street though.
