The Influenza A Feeding Frenzy

Rate: 21 Flag

I thought it would be worthwhile to provide a source of unbiased information on the Swine Flu/Influenza A H1N1 outbreak as it occurs.

ProMED-mail is the global electronic reporting system for outbreaks of emerging infectious disease and toxins, open to all sources.  ProMED-mail, the Program for Monitoring Emerging Diseases, is a program of the International Society for Infectious Diseases.  (from the website)

Interesting to have a real primary source for flu info. Thanks.
Every time one of these contained outbreaks show up, the media frenzy is like a bad action movie. Unless I hear of a case in my direct area, I ignore it. It's what our media has become.
The groceries are going to start disappearing off the shelves soon... people are going to get scared and stock up and buy guns. They think the end is near... Me, I'm staying home... if you have a headache or muscle ache... don't come visit!!! :)

Thanks for the sites! It pays to know what is going on, but it does not pay to panic. Knowledge is power.
thanks for info. Knowledge is power.
i haven't followed the link yet, but before i do i need to paraphrase what i'm hearing from CNN; we're all gonna die!!!!!
We are not all going to die one in the US is dying of this...yet...
Well, I imagine we will, but not of this. :)
What scares me is if they make a big deal of this and it amounts to nothing, what will happen when a REAL birdflue pandemic arrives?
Great one blue! I like a few facts before I strap on a face mask.
Thank you for interjecting a voice of calm rationale into this hysteria, blue. We all need a chill pill.
thanks...much appreciated Blue
Here is the CDC site, with up to date US information:

I hate to say it, as much as I hate hype and panic reactions, but I do think this could turn out to be a big deal.
thank you for this!!! i love people who give concrete links and information on somthing like this and don't just express their personal opinion about it, although that is helpful too. love love love
Thanks for this info - very timely for me.
But it's so much fun to panic!
Rated for rationality.
Yes, panic is so entertaining, so is blaming all of this on factory farming and the evil corporate farms. Truth be known, there was a heck of a lot more transfer of pathogens between humans and livestock when everyone raised their own meat animals - just look at who catches Avian Flu - the folks dealing with the birds on a day to day basis. I'm not a proponent of raising livestock squished to the gills, but I also don't agree with adding that to what should be an epidemiological argument.
