This has been quite the winter for cold and snow, but that hasn't prevented life and work from going on here in the Hinterland.

The first view of the morning out of my bedroom window.

Even the cobwebs are icy.

Nearly half-way to work, stubble breaks up the white and grey.

Not all of the horses have warm stalls...

Nor do the mules!!!

Windbreaks are good - and pretty!

A little snow doesn't keep the Prairie Dogs inside.

The turkeys seems to enjoy it too (old bunkers from the WWII Naval Ammunitions Depot in background).

Landscaping must mean civilization...or work...

The view from my office window - one of the best perks of my job!

The car I was supposed to drive to the feedlot...

Cattle get worked sun, rain, or snow!

Glad they're outside and not me.

Blood-sampling: one of the things I do when I'm not on OS.

Some of the local deer herd as I head back home for the day.

Gorgeous! I'd kill for some actual snow instead of this mucky, wet mess we have - also for the chute!

Julie - I wondered if you'd zero in on the chute :) Actually, the neck cradle on it SUCKS!!! Most of the time the cowboys just mug the cattle for me.

Just yesterday I was in San Francisco, loving the sunshine and warmth. A few days before that I was in capris, a t-shirt and sandals in Palm Springs.

Sigh. Back to snowy reality.

@Julie - the forecast says we're getting 9 to 15 inches of snow before Wednesday morning. You're welcome to it.

@Julie - just the usual advise: dress in layers, then stay inside. The main reason Chicagoans will go out in a freezing blizzard is so we can mock the snowbirds for being such weenies.

I should be sick of snow by now, but it is still beautiful. It changes the drab late winter grays and browns to light and shimmer. Great pictures.

Very cool photos! I can't imagine seeing prairie dogs popping out of the snow. I especially love the frozen milkweed pod photo. Very evocative. Thanks for this view of your world.

Beautiful Pictures! Breathtaking...it's easy to forget about snow when you live in Southern California. Too bad we don't get at least a week or two of snow each year!
