5. Giving wall street a trillion dollars with no accountability for it's use.
6. Disclosing the names of CIA operatives in pique over refusing to back up false data.
7. Encouraging talk of sedition in response to losing elections.
8. The insinuation that the founding fathers were christians when many were not.
9. The insinuation that they intended to create a "christian" nation when they went to great pains to avoid doing that.
10. Wasting billions of dollars and thousands of lives on a war that had no basis in fact.
11. Wasting the opportunity to go after those people who actually did attack us to continue that war.

If they ever take power again, we are sunk as a nation and as a global society, so we'd better get off "don't ask don't tell" raises for veterans (and I'm one) and anything else that is not about saving our nation from the evil that those people bring everywhere they go.
I want Cheney in jail.

That being said, I give this 30 points for controversy.

23. Chipping away at our civil rights with things like warrantless wiretapping and legislation such as the Patriot Act.
24. Elevating ignorance to the level of ideology while purging anyone capable of independent thinking from their ranks.
25. Putting us through 8 years of George Bush and the Neocons, then being ready to start a civil war after 8 months of Obama.
I might add: dissing the president during a joint session of congress and on live tv.
Somehow your political parties do not fit into an European party scheme. I find it surprising that the GOP colour is red and they use these self-ironic symbolics like an elephant or a donkey. Hannibal vs. Jesus?
I HONESTLY THINK WE WOULD NOT HAVE SURVIVED MCCAIN--REALLY
Anyway, I like the political stuff. Will keep reading you :-)
I'm delving into that issue myself with a series about authoritarianism in conservative politics. The first post is at my blog this AM.
Bill I used fascist since by definition that is the face they are showing. I am afraid but not fearful. I will not hide and I won't mince terms to protect their sensibilities or to aid them in denying the truth.
NatalieNP, True that many can be stuck to either party or at least to some of their members. The GOP can be handed every last one of them and many not mentioned. Fascism rose in countries that felt pushed aside in the new order after world war one. Countries that lost status and economic clout in their sphere of influence. Countries full of people who refused to grow with the world and that had the intention of wielding global power as they had in the past while economic troubles crippled them internally.
Andre' welcome, Your question deserves as impartial repy as possible, I presume that you are not a U.S. resident or have not been one long. Simply put the modern versions of these party's are that the Democrats are seen as being socially liberal and the party of the working people. They have no intention of interfering with the secular nature of our government. They promote a platform of inclusiveness and civil rights. The Republican party espouses theoretical conservative fiscal policy and morality with strong links to Christian religion, also they claim to support the free market system and a strong worldwide military presence. The symbols were created in the late nineteenth century by a political cartoonist named Thomas Nast the elephant was to symbolize the the GOP as a party of those who had much and did not intend to share it, the Donkey was to symbolize the stubborn nature of the party and it's unwillingness to compromise even when compromise was the best solution.
Everyone else, I am truly glad that you read and took the time to comment, thanks.
