I built inkjet printers, embedded computer boards, restored and repaired both cars, motorcycles and electronics. I read, write, and do arithmetic (albeit poorly) My wife claims that I have more useless knowledge than anyone on earth and resultingly no one will play trivial pursuit with me anymore. I do play pinohcle but due to my inability to cheat I don't win very often. Recently disabled I turned to Open Salon to re-engage my writing bug. Update, cat population now at 3. homes found for kittens. Update two add one cocker spaniel to the list and maybe just shoot me.

The Gift

Rate: 13 Flag

The holidays can find us in a struggle, a struggle to meet the expectations of other, a struggle to find the perfect gift.  Gifts are tokens of our love to those we give them to.  We look for those gifts that we know will warm the heart of that person we give it to.  We tend to work insanely at times to find the gift that will make our love known to that person we feel deserves it.

I've known my wife since we were kids, a long time ago.  I have made a point of trying every year, good and bad, to find something that would light up her eyes and warm her heart.  For the first time in thirty years I have failed.  Poor planning and being broke finally got the best of me, this year I have nothing to surprise her with.

I know, it isn't all about material things.  I just wish that this year in particular I had something special to give.  Only a month ago she literally saved my life, and I have not even a token gift to give her.

So many people never find the love of their lives and I was lucky enough to find mine so long ago.  I would walk through fire for her, suffer any indignity for her, and take on all comers to make her smile.

So, Cathy, for all you've done for me I want to to thank you,  thanks is a meager gift since it is only a feeling and not even a pittance of what I feel I would like to give you.  You deserve so much more and still it wouldn't be enough.

Thank you, and I love you.

When the only gift you have is you yourself, all you can do is get out the BIG roll of wrapping paper an' start wrappin'!!

Have a good'un!!!
.
Wow, that "I love you" is the most powerful gift of all. Wonderful!
Wrenching, Bob. I'll bet she knows how fortunate she is to have your love. May this Christmas be the best ever for you guys.
I think she knows Bob. Material things are great, but an I Love and Need You, from the Heart, tops them all!
Wrap this post up! She'll treasure it more than anything you could have bought. And keep it longer too.
Your wife is a lucky woman, Bobot, and I think the thing that will make her eyes light up this Christmas is having you there with her! Merry Christmas!
Perfect, Bobbot. Also, what Sky said.
Are you kidding me? This is a LOVELY gift! You are a gift to your wife. :)
This universal declaration of your love to your wife, methinks, is the best gift, my friend. It's so precious that it cannot be bought even if one were a millionnaire. Merry Christmas and happy new year to you and yours, Bob.

Bob, you're kidding, right? A public, in front of God and everybody, declaration of love like this is worth its weight in gold, platinum and diamonds. Make sure she sees it and prepare to be hugged.

Thank you all for the words of support you have left me here. Cathy did seem pleased by this.
What Sky said! Wonderful gift to Cathy. And she has a great name that starts with a "C!"
Honestly, I no longer care if I get a gift and I told my disabled hub not to bother. His love is all I need, and we can't afford it anyway.
