Senate blocks DADT

Rate: 9 Flag

Beyond absurd folks.    Psst! Don't ask about it and don't tell anyone about it.
gays-1209x-large

I watched the Senate hearing while questioning the top military personnel of the nation.  Everyone of the top brass will support the measure and stated so in the hearing (of course, what choice to they have if it becomes law).  Now our Senate is telling us that they know better than the people they’ve placed in position to run the military.

Is this a message that they don’t trust the very people they put in charge of our military?  Or is it a a decision made by a bunch of senile homophobes who haven’t a clue what’s going on around them in the world today?

Of course the bill is tied to another bill authorizing a massive pay raise for the young men and women we send to be shot at and to shoot others, a whopping 1.4 % increase.  This will certainly change the balance of wealth in our world.  It’s no wonder the puppet’s strings are being pulled to just say no.

The Senate should be embarrassed, ashamed and should tuck their tails between their legs and whimper like the cowards they are.  1.4% is the lowest pay raise now voted down by Congress since 1962.  1962 folks!  Interestingly enough, that’s the exact inflation rate in 1962, when Mr. McCain was in the military. Some other notes of interest:
The average cost of a new home was $12,500.00
The average annual income was $5,556.00
Average rent was $110.00 per month
Tuition at Harvard University was $1,520.00
A 4WD International Scout was $2,150.00
Eggs were $0.32 per dozen and gas was $0.28 per gallon.

“Sen. John McCain, the top Republican on the Armed Services Committee, has been blocking the repeal because of concerns about the impact on military readiness” USA Today

Senator McCain; do you realize that there are many gays serving proudly in our military TODAY?  Does this mean you feel that our military is not ready for the tasks handed them?  Or does it mean that you’re such a homophobe and bigot that you can’t see past your own issues to move into the 21st century?

OH!!  Here’s the reason: “One challenge is that 42 Republicans have signed a letter saying they will not vote on legislation until work is done on tax cuts.” USA Today

Two Republicans in particular, Scott Brown of Massachusetts and Lisa Murkowski of Alaska, had earlier said they were committed to DADT repeal. But both ended up voting against it, claiming they wanted to see the tax-cut bill resolved firstCitizen Cohn, The New Republic

It seems our very own Senate is going to hold the entire country hostage, including the youth of our nation, our heroic soldiers dying every damned day so they can plant their sorry asses in their easy chairs at night, gloating of their own importance and complaining that people such as Julian Assange can freely write about our corrupt and evil government’s activities and they’re going to hold us hostage like the terrorists they seek to destroy until they get their taxes for the wealthy.

And to think of what we have to look forward to in 2011!

Bob, while I agree with everything you write, the Senate and the Congress kill bills all the time take the military doesn't want. More B-52 bombers they don't want. More of those Bradley jeeps that a BB gun can shoot through. More of everything because they want to get elected. Yes, this is different, but not so much when you figure we spend billions and billions on crap we will never use. We're still working on Star Wars shit when we're fighting insurgants. It's as crazy as a monkey of a rock!
I'm so tired of the bundling of issues...especially as important as DADT. bastards...Thanks Bob. r
Amy - you got that right, even some of the politicians are yelling the same :-)

Scanner - yep, those politicians gotta keep the pork going so they can keep their asses planted in the office of self-importance

Muse - I know. If they would take one bill at a time and work on, imagine how much we could get done.

sky - thanks
Its not their life and they dont care, government cares for one thing, as you put it so well "gloating of their own importance" this is the same in every country, unfortunately.
Thousands of British students are rioting because college tuition is being raised three hundred percent. I wonder what it will take for Americans to finally take a stand. Even a first grader knows that you can't keep spending more and taxing less. Greece and Ireland are the most recent countries to be bailed out by central banks and something called the International Monetary Fund (Where do they get their funding?). The USA will go bankrupt if we keep borrowing and spending at our current rate. It isn't a matter of if we go bankrupt, but when. You better get some barbed wire and guns to protect those thirty acres, Bob.
Jerrod. It seems the natural evolution of all governments, doesn't it.

Willie - I've been wondering the damned same thing. Where is everyone? Hell, in the 60s and early 70s we assembled and protested everything, even other protests. Have we all become so complacent through comfort now that we don't even know what to do? Have we fallen prey to some covert plan to make us marshmallows?

@ Bob: I think it bears mentioning that this isn't solely a straight person's issue, either. DAILY, I catch crap, both here and on other sites, for not being patient and letting things "work out in their own time" and for making the rest of the LGBTQ community look bad because I refuse to be a good little dyke who let's the "process" take it's course ("The process" sure has worked well up till now, huh???). The LGBTQ community has our own proponents of "marshmallowhood", like Joe "Invite me for cocktails at the White House and I'll be your friend" Solmonese of the HRC, that are every bit as much of the problem as the hetero dickweasels are.
And when are they going to do something about officers who rape female GIs, knowing their superiors will cover it up, rather than prosecuting them?
Amy - you're right, although after the treatment gays have received for decades, I can almost understand the reticence. Hell, it still takes incredible bravery just to step out of the “closet” and this is the 21st century.

Few people seem to understand the concept of having a voice and using it as well as Edmund Burke did; "There is, however, a limit at which forbearance ceases to be a virtue." At some point, it's sheer laziness or cowardice for anyone to stay quiet when the world is filled with continued injustice. I’ve witnessed this so many times – the civil rights and peace movements of the 60s, Reagan’s abandonment of those who literally cannot care for themselves – the mentally handicapped when his “entitlement” cuts tossed millions onto the streets to care for themselves, the gay rights movement trying to make progress now, etc…..

People seem to be afraid to use their voices in protest of injustice.

Until it happens to them personally!!!
Doc - yep. The pefection of sanctimony. Good point.
Well done. And Lawless Lawyer (aka Leslie) has a terrific post about this subject at: http://www.doesthismakesense.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=158:guest-contributor-beyond-qdont-ask-dont-tellq&catid=47:guest-columnists&Itemid=183
Thanks Nikki. That is indeed a good article.
