The Big Distractions

Rate: 13 Flag

The lesser of two evils is still… evil.

Who decides what the American public focuses its attention upon on a day-to-day basis?

With this nation at war with innumerable countries, with habeas corpus being tossed into the waste bin, with self-confessed torturers having their crimes swept under the carpet, with environmental extremes becoming self-evident; why is anyone in this nation concerned about what moron the Republican Party is dating at the present moment?

When was the last story about the nation’s loss of habeas corpus presented on any of the national media outlets?

 one-party-system

Let’s put it into the immediate perspective. Another Republican boob has threatened the choices of women in this country. This happens every time the GOP is allowed the microphone. Suddenly 95% of discussion is taken over by controversy over who pays the premium to a private insurance company. Virtually everyone focuses on this. Thousands of articles are written.

This is a distraction.

It’s the same song played over and over. Screaming about the distribution of pennies while habeas corpus disappears, drones assassinate indiscriminately, torturers conduct coast-to-coast book tours, and more and more this country becomes a 21st Century fascist state.

Barack Obama has shown that the President of the United States can order the torture of defenseless prisoners and never be punished. Democrats have ordered the execution of at least one American citizen with no due process. Drones launched by American forces attack Pakistan citizens on a daily basis.

And yet thousands of articles are written about Rick Santorum? Where the hell are your minds people?

Pathetic.

With an incumbent President who appears to be a pretty good bet of being reelected, why is the focus of the nation on everything except what the President is actually doing? Where are legitimate critics of this administration broadcast in the national media?

What is presented in the media as being legitimate criticism is mostly the babbling of the right wing fringe. Obama’s team inoculates the President by having any and all critics portrayed as nut jobs and/or racists. This is wonderful if all that matters to anyone is having the present Democrat reelected. Habeas corpus can go to hell. Torture can become the rule of the land. American forces can assassinate anyone at will as long as the current President is reelected.

Disgraceful.

This country has gotten the cart so far in front of the horse it’s ridiculous. Money is a tool. Money is a way to facilitate the transfer of goods. Do any of you seriously believe that if the fools of the Republican or Democratic Parties had all the money in the world that they would actually know what to do about anything?

One of the major failures of the current Democratic Party is their refusal to shape the conversation of America. For the past thirty years Democrats have only responded to Republican attacks. Healthcare? Let’s use Bob Dole’s plan. War? What does the GOP want to do? Jobs? How can we help Republican donors?

There has been no discussion regarding where this country wants to be two, three, five, ten, one hundred years from now. There has been no discussion on how many drone attacks should there be tomorrow in Pakistan. There has been no discussion on why twenty percent of every dollar spent on health care should go into private pockets which only encourages increasing the price of all medical services.

Is the Democratic Party a strong political voice or does it have the personality of a battered child, only wishing to please its batterer?
Habeas corpus gone. Torture back.

Vote Democratic or Republican?  Only if they start waterboarding voters. Which would probably be O.K. with both parties.

Habeas corpus. Remember that old thing?
Having Rick Santorum dominate the headlines is like having Glenn Beck's entire philosophy taken seriously.
Yeah, I remember habeas corpus . . . , but it's so yesterday! This is one of the finest posts I've ever read here, Peter.

Pragmatists for obama! Radicals for obama -- all seeking shelter from their real identities. Radical, pragmatists who support torture, genocide, and using the constitution as toilet paper, I'd say they are.

M, Rick Santorum is such a joke he does not even register on my threat assessment meter.
M, very nice of you to say.
Peter, please don't insult my most recent post on Ricky Santorum. You may have your views on priorities but Ricky's focus on condoms and clitorises and Big Boobed Preggo Catholic Chicks, oops, that's anudder website, wink, is Top Drawer News, in my boobs, er, books...dubble winkies
J, Rick Santorum reminds me of a comment made by the father of a buddy of mine to his son who was having girl problems. “You couldn’t get laid with a fistful of fifties.”
Peter the idea is to gather more converts because that is part of how they control us through their bogus religion. Where I live there is a church on every corner, and high unemployment, but I guess it allows people to take the focus off what matters in your life, or the rights that are being taken from them. It is the same way that slaves were lulled into working for free, watching family members beaten, raped, and or sold. For that reason alone we may have to recognize the ways they control us and keep us from paying attention to the things that matter.
[r] Well said! Stockholm Syndromed bobbleheaded citizens lost to nose-leading media crazymaking fear-mongering of how worse things can be and denying how bad they are in the now.

Why would righties and independents EVER vote Democratic when the Democrats ARE hypocrits and cowards and front people for the robber class and they know, hell, everyone on earth knows it except for the Obamacrats and the profoundly weird ones who think Obama is a socialist! When is morality going to matter to either party seriously? Not pretend morality election year when the Dem leadership plays Lucy and the football once again to amnesiac Dem members.

I guess half the country got addicted to the warm cushy bonding of bush-hating and when it turned out when Bush left the equation the Dem Party's pants were just as down as the Repubs, it was just too much for the Dem collective ego and DENIAL, FEROCIOUS DENIAL, CREPT IN AND JUST WON'T LEAVE.

A national conversation about morality and sanity and partnership and cooperation? Dream on. THE SKY IS FALLING THE SKY IS FALLING... SAVE US BARACK!!!! HAH!!!! I'm thinking Obama lusting after the possibility of being commander in chief over WWIII. Why waste his time giving him a peace prize. Puuulllleeeeeezzzzze!!!!! GLOBAL EMPIRE NEXT ON HIS RESUME!!! libby
Great post, Peter. Americans have more important things to do than worry about elections - like trying to save civilization.
Some grant money must be allocated to studying the psyche of some insane American demographics. Obama and the Democratic Party are doing exactly what they are told by the real owners. Just as the Right Wing f**k nuts are told to go ape-s**t. Excellent post, Peter. R
D, simplistic thought will always capture a large percentage of the voters. Those who are willing to put words together should not be distracted by the most basic of concepts.
Nothing will change until the young take it to the streets and burn a city or two. And I don't see that happening until things get much much worse.

Call me when there are a hundred thousand in front of Goldman, throwing rocks and waving a red flag or two for media effect.

This old man will carry a sign. Promise.

L, Stockholm Syndrome appears to be the entire Democratic platform. Obama might be the biggest child of them all.
Dr S, elections have become a permanent distraction.
T, don't know if owners is the proper word. Renters might be closer.
This is so good that any comment I might make is in danger of being nothing more than plagiarism.

Elections won't solve the problem when there is only one political philosophy operant in America. It presents two faces but both faces are peopled by leaders who have sold out to the agenda which pits all against all in an insane scramble for money. Elections couldn't solve the problem even if America genuinely had two different political philosophies.

The lack of goals mentioned by you means that there is no yardstick by which to judge whether America is progressing or retrogressing. This is much desired by politrickians because they want no one to have a means of judging their worth as representatives. They're quite happy to have America going around in circles while they pick the taxpayers pockets for fat salaries and fill their bank accounts with bribes.

Sad, sad, sad.......
.
S, just have to keep moving and maintain the proper perspective.
Waterboarding voters. Hehe. I kinda like that idea. :)
F, waterboarding is probably not needed to get the results the parties want from the American people. They seem to have grooved the system already.
You asked a great question and I want to answer the way you would expect me to--Hell to the No-- they would still not fix a problem if they had all the money in the world. By the way I rated this piece last time around just wanted you to know I enjoy your rebel spirit, were that we could clone you.
