How stupid is the current Democratic Party?

How stupid is the current Democratic Party?

Following the strategy of Bill Clinton, the Democrats who came to power in 2008 have become the moderate Republicans of Bob Dole’s day.  They believe that if they administer this country from the Republican middle ground, the opposition will be forced to the right wing extreme. Congratulations. The game plan works. The Republican Party is now run by nut job extremists; however, the Democratic Party has now become the Republican Party of the 1990s.

What’s in the air these days are the whines of Democrat apologists who respond to any legitimate liberal criticism of Obama by coming back with a knee-jerk threat scenario of how horrible the  Romney administration will be.

Hey, Democrats, did you learn anything from 2000? The reason real liberals voted Green in 2000 was because they thought the Clinton/Gore Democratic Party was too far to the right and in bed with too many corporate interests. So, what does today’s Democratic Party do? They move further to the right and shovel so much money into Wall Street and the private health insurance industry that the mind boggles.

And now they whine that folks are going to vote Green. Pitiful.

If you want people to vote for you, you comport yourself in a way which will attract their votes, not the polar opposite.

Romney doesn’t deserve anyone’s vote; neither does Obama.

But the Supreme Court!  Romney will appoint reactionary judges!

Probably. But if anyone has been paying attention, Obama has recently tried to give himself the power to execute American citizens without recourse to due process, or any of the rights accumulated since the Magna Carta. Anyone who believes such a person will appoint liberal Supreme Court justices should talk to a mental health professional. Obama’s judgement on this lethal power is so questionable that he should never be trusted again. One can only assume he would appoint judges who would agree that the President of the United States should have life and death authority over everyone on earth. Now, that is scary.

Obama is one of the worst presidents to hold office in a very long time. Bush was worse, so what, being better than Bush or Romney is no reason to vote for anyone. A wet bar rag is better than Bush but at least a wet bar rag doesn’t believe it should be able to assassinate American citizens whenever it feels like it.

Now that the Democratic Party has become the Republican Party of Bob Dole, there really isn’t a dime’s worth of difference between the two. The Democrats took the lessons of 2000 and moved to the right. Good luck with that. But don’t think for a second of attracting any true liberals to vote for you. You went out of your way to disassociate yourself from voters who know that torturers must be prosecuted and punished. You went out of your way to keep Gitmo open. You went out of your way to deny Americans human rights by maintaining the for profit health system. You went out of your way to disassociate yourself from voters who don’t believe children should be killed by drones because that’s the cost effective way of waging war these days. You’ve gone out of your way to disassociate yourselves from voters who don’t support more war mongering. You’ve come down on the wrong side of virtually every major moral decision you’ve had to make.

Democrats, do you remember what morality is?

I don’t think you do.

But there is hope. Nobody can speak for everybody but there is a way the Democrats can pick up at least one vote. All Obama has to do is his job and enforce the law of the land. All Mr. Obama has to do is arrest a self-confessed war criminal. All Mr. Obama has to do is arrest George W. Bush for ordering the torture of defenseless prisoners and at least one more voter will pull the lever for him in November. Of course if he doesn’t enforce the law, his administration isn’t worth more than half a glass of warmed over spit and all the whining from his supporters will remain as funny and pointless as it is now.

It is truly amazing that Democrats think Greens will vote for them after Democrats have pandered to the Republican base for so very long. Their strategy was to play to the conservative middle and assume thinking folks would follow them to hell and back. I don't think so.
Politics on both sides is the same as organized religion, you believe their lies you give them money. Both pander to fraud and theft. Your other points on war are to me a little overstated. In reality drones save peoples lives on both sides of a conflict. In any war people are going to die especially innocent people caught up or in the middle. Which in many cases civilians are used by the conflict fighters for cover or forced help. My opinion only, your right about the political parties and neither are there for the peoples benefit. older/exasperated good post, and I didn't just say that so you wouldn't delete me.
J, the Dems think liberals have no choice but to vote for them. I refer you to the title of this piece.
T, neither the Dems or the Reps deserve anyone's vote. No American should ever vote for anyone who believes they should be able to execute Americans at will.
I didn't leave the Democratic party, they left me.
Rated for truth.
Brilliant post. The US elections are a sham. It's encouraging that so many Americans are waking up to this.
Is there an alternative to Obama? Otherwise, you're guaranteed to get Romney. I still believe there's a micrometer's worth of difference. Otherwise why don't we just all vote for Tea Party candidates ASAP?
L, the Dems took the first bus out of town. Too many corporate dollars and too many professional Democrats who think the most important goal is for them to keep their jobs and make as much money as possible.
Dr S, Thanks. At least the Supreme Court appointment rationale has now been shown to be a sham. Obama has appointed himself Lord High Executioner and cannot be trusted to run the simplest of errands.
ONL, all I can do is point to the obvious disqualifiers mentioned above and say that if you keep rewarding the Democratic Party for moving further and further to the right by voting for them, they will continue to move further and further to the right. When the Dems are even more to the right then the Reps are now, will you still vote for them because they are still slightly better than the Reps? Even though they stand for nothing you once believed?
Democrats, do you remember what morality is?

A better thought would be, "Democrats, do you remember what sanity is?"

If you do, vote for Barack Obama.

(Seems I already posted this reasonable, courteous comment, but I musta not hit the post button. I'll be sure to do so this time.)
Re the Supreme Court appointments, are you contending that there's no difference between Kagan/Sotomayor versus Scalia/Thomas?
A, Obama has claimed for the presidency the legal power of life and death over every individual on this planet. Anyone with such an opinion should have absolutely nothing to do with appointing justices to the Supreme Court.
[r] Bravo, Peter! Well said and bears repeating over and over and over. Thou shalt not kill. Thou shalt not steal. Do unto others. It really is basic and simple what our governance should be based on. Both legacy parties are evil. best, libby
Votes for Bush I got us Scalia and Thomas. Votes for Bush II got us Alito and Roberts. Clinton brought us Ginsburg and Breyer. So far, Obama gave us Sotomayor and Keagan. I cring to think the difference in these appointments is so slight that I should vote my conscience only, and not with my progeny in mind.
I agree wholeheartedly that Obama has been dreadful regarding the Constitution, but ever since Marbury v Madison (a case the "originalists" never talk about) the single most important thing a sitting president does is who he puts on the SC.
In my mind, its Green (or something similar) from dog catcher to governor, but it has to be democratic or republican beyond that - at least until we have a viable 3rd party.
T, Obama has shown he should not be trusted with any adult responsibility. You are indulging in magical thinking if you believe he will appoint future justices who are not willing to codify powers for POTUS which agreeing with Obama and are entirely opposed to centuries of humanitarian law.

the only weakness in your analysis is the implication the democrat party has ideology, or even any motivation, beyond getting elected. you may disagree with their tactics but first be clear about motivation.

they did succeed in putting a brown man in the oval office, and could have put a woman there as well, because the republican brand was particularly rancid, so they have a certain basic competence.
Peter, as to "rewarding" the Democratic Party for moving rightward -- this will be prevented if enough intelligent wonky lefties are continually in the face of the elected officials like flies. People, educate yourself and get in your elected officials' faces!
